The interesting thing to me is that there appears to be no "bolt-bounce" on the M4. There is a video out there that demonstrates the bolt bounce phenomenon better than the one below, but you'll see what I mean.

To those of you who know, what is the disadvantage of bolt bounce in a semi-auto rifle? Is there any? Sorry for hijacking the thread with a question...maybe somebody can post a link to the right thread for me.

Bolt bounce can sometimes cause the extractor to slip or pop off the case of the chambered round, causing a possible failure to fire and a likely failure to extract. That's why an M4 extractor spring is stronger than an M16 extractor spring, to keep tighter tension on the case to reduce the risk of losing the round during bounce.
