Looks nice how does cerekote hold up to normal wear and tear from shooting and holstering?

mk12man

It holds up far superior to just normal or stock finish!

M&P newbie here. What is the tab extending down from the back of the magwell.

Cerakote rocks, literally - its ceramic ;)

The tab (which has a metal bar extending up the frame) is the keeper for the rear back strap.

Hey mk12man,

If you could after some good amount of holster use, shooting, and just normal use and abuse I would like to hear back from you on how the finish holds up. Thanks!

Cool. Much appreciated. I have a love/hate experience with the stuff. Last year I had vltor cas-v and emod cerakoted and they have held up extremely well. This year I had a 1911 done by the same guy. Shortly after it was finished I took the 1911 to a handgun class and after the first day it looked like someone had taken 180 grit sandpaper to the slide. That may have been my fault though. What is the cure time for the stuff as far as using it? I was told but can't remember.

so that's ceramic right? So that thing will chip eventually? won't it just get bigger and bigger as the ceramic flakes off?

From what I've read it is not a porcelain enamel like is fired onto a BBQ grill, you need to get hotter than they suggest for that. You can't bend or reverse impact porcelain enamel like they do:

It ain't 2K urethane or an epoxy. Their MSDS for part A says a "polymer-ceramic" mixture and part B has a silazane, so there is some inorganic based polymerization going on.

I don't see any photos posted anywhere.

What does the gun look like?

Ah, OK, for some reason, now I can see the photos. What a great looking matte finish that is. Zero reflection whatsoever.

I'm waiting on my own full size M&P 40 getting refinished too. I have a second batch of guns at ROBAR being done, and just found out I should be getting them back next week! YIPPEE!! Included is both my M&P full size, and also my .40 S&W Walther PPS.

That finish looks great. All you're missing now is a coyote thread protector. How much did that run? I'm interested in doing that to mine.

Erik, look at the beginning of the threat. I think he said it ran $125

You don't need to use anything to take down the gun, just pull the trigger and it will come apart without the use of a takedown pin. It was only put in as a way to satisfy the glock takedown lawsuit carried over from the sigma gun.
