Someone got me a non folding DD rear sight today. From what I understand they will not work with a RDS. They will fit, but I still need a folding sight when running a RDS correct?

Incorrect.

Incorrect.

So its ok to use the DD rear then? The only drawback I see is having to look through the sights when using the RDS.

Yes, it is OK. You can use an absolute or lower-1/3 cowitness. Absolute means you'd have to look through the rear aperture as if you didn't even have an RDS. A lower-1/3, the dot would be above the irons and you could use the two independently.

Thank you! That was the info I was looking for.

also it depends on which RDS you are using (somewhat)

a Micro and it can be a bit tougher, but on a larger aimpoint or EOTECH I find I can still hover the red dot over the deployed BUIS by lifting my cheek just a little off the stock.

YMMV

What optic/mount are you running?

I use an Aimpoint Micro with a Fixed front and rear. No problems at all. You don't even notice the BUIS unless you need them.

I use a lower 1/3 cowitness, but I believe even with absolute you still look over the rear aperture.

I use fixed front/rear sights with a 1/3 CW with zero issues. Just look over the rear sight while using the dot...or don't...dot is still there while looking through the irons.

I have a fixed FSB and a folding Troy rear sight coupled with my Eotech 512 and have no problems. When I use the RDS the dot seems to float free over the front sight. When I deploy the irons, my dot sits right on top of my front sight post.

If it bugs you, sell the rear sight and get something that folds.

I've used both, and have grown to prefer folding rear sights, irrespective of co-witness type

I'm another fixed-for-1/3, folding-for-absolute. However, with the H-1 I find the 1/3 visible but just barely and am considering going to an absolute mount and folding rear. I wish Daniel Defense would make an absolute mount as I really like the simplicity of their 1/3 mount.

Or aimpoint can just get rid of that annoying diode location on the bottom right of the T-1/H-1 ;)
