Umm... cousin marriages aren't exclusive to Islam, it's praticed by Christians as well, constantine's children married their first cousins and many Christians have followed until recent times. Heck 150 years ago first cousins where allowed to marry in this country and was pretty popular. When you have a town of a few hundred it leaves few options.

This goes with any small area, now we have large metropolitan areas and the dating pool is a little larger, we all don't need to marry our cousins :D
