Anyone use the method of holding a rifle where you put your thumb over the top of the hand guard? Does it interfere with your sight picture or with an optic?

Kinda does for me with my 20" and a TA31 ACOG. Enough that it bothers me.

No not for me I even have my vltor off set light mount mounted on the top rail and rest my thumb on top of it the flat part that is.
Has for sights std FSB, Larue fixed rear sight, and aimpoint ML3 with lower 1/3 cowitness.

With a standard FSB unless you have 2'' thick thumbs it's not a problem. Varies with optics though depending on mount. With that said that's how I like to shoot.

i don't know how to link it, but if you check the laure vs gear sector handstop thread on the first page there is a photo of my grip with thumb over and it doesn't impede the sights at all

Switched from thumb forward to thumb over a few months ago. No interference with my T1.

With lower 1/3 mount or co-witness mount?

i have Vltor scout light mount, my thumb is not higher than that. i am more worry about if light will block lower right side.

Skang,

Sorry about that. Yes, lower 1/3 cowitness (Larue LT660 mount).

i use that grip all the time with the carbine, i've had no issues with my sight picture. the only time it screws up my sight picture with this grip is when i try to use it on the mp5( my thumb blocks the front sight, in a cqb situation dosen't hurt my hits at all).

Not an issue at all with my Aimpoint in a LT-150 mount... (lower 1/3 cowitness)

Due to an arthritic condition I cannot seem to make a thumb-over grip comfortable enough to use effectively. I haven't had issues with sight picture with BUIS or the EOtech when working with it.

I'm curious what that foregrip is doing for you, and how you activate your light.

VG is an index point on my handguard that I reference for a consistent stance. It also aids in ambi switches, manipulating the weapon, SOTM, etc... I grab it all the time.

I prioritize a far-forward grip over light toggling. to activate the Surefire G2X, I cant the gun and reach the thumb over top.
