Finally got a chance to really put some rounds through my M&P 9C today. I have never really been a fan of "compact" handguns, and have never found one that I liked or felt comfortable carrying. A Glock 19 was a small as I was comfortable with, but in all fairness, the 19 is probably my favorite Glock. I never liked the Glock 26.
Enter the M&P 9C. I got it as an alternative to my fullsize M&P's, as I do like to have a backup, and wanted something to carry as a primary in the occasional times that I need something smaller to conceal than my fullize's. The 9C felt MUCH different in my hand than any other compact smaller than the Glock 19 ever has.
After shooting it today, I am totally amazed. If anyone had ever told me that a compact gun would shoot this nicely for me, I would have thought them to be a nut. Accuracy is dead on par with my fullsize's. Effortlessly in the X ring. Felt recoil and muzzle rise were right on par with my Glock 19. Very little of either. In fact, when I really did a few NSR's and locked down on the gun, the muzzle seemed to not move at all, and all rounds were 9 ring and tighter on a B-24 at 10 yrds.
I was amazed by the M&P 9 and M&P 45 when I first shot both of them, and even more so with every subsequent range trip. I can honestly say that the 9C is in that same catergory now. I feel completely comfortable with this gun and my abilities with it. I have only ran my M&P 9 in 1 class so far, but I cant WAIT to start running all of them in classes. I am truly amazed by these handguns.

And to my Glock brothers..... Never fear. Glocks still rock in my book. I like them and will continue to recommend them. I have just found that for me PERSONALLY, the M&P's are a much better fit.

I am going to go clean my 9C now and be all happy.

As if I wasn't tempted enough to trade in the G26 for a 9c......

Around the 3rd or 4th mag, I started thinking about you and your 26..... Find some way to go try a 9C. Seriously.

I finally got to shoot my first M&P this past Tuesday night. One of our shooters was having trouble hitting the steel plates so I took the gun from him and on the second shot I noticed the rear sight was drifted way over to the right. It appears that the rear sight is "slip fit" and that the set-screw really is required to keep it in place, as I was able to drift the sight back into place with my thumb.

Once we got the sight issue worked out it actually shot pretty nice. It had a fiber-optic front sight and the owner said the trigger had been re-worked to 3.5 lbs. The takeup on the trigger was long but very light and smooth. I never did find the exact reset, but I was still able to clear the plate rack with no problem.

I won't be trading in my 1911s on an M&P anytime soon, and even if I was to go to plastic guns it would probably still be a swap back to the Glock, but I was pleasantly surprised at the way the M&P shot and handled. Now I want to shoot a stock one to see how different it is.

Have you noticed any rawness or abrasions on your trigger finger after an extended range session?? like say 200-300 rds?

When I shot one about a year or so I had a small blister form on my trigger finger after 300 rds.

But other then that and a roll pin coming out.. I had to say.. the grip fit me very well.. and point-ability was also very good and accuracy was excellent for me.

But the one I shot was being used as a Demo for a LEO acquaintance.

I too will not be giving up my G17 any time soon..
(of course I said that about my 1911 when I got the Glock.... )

Hawkeye,

You and I spoke about the G26 vs M&P9c a couple of months ago and at the time I decided to go with the G26. The M&P9c feels much better but I still ended up with the G26 and I'm not too impressed with it thus far. I'm not nearly as impressed with it as you are with your M&P9c.

I'm going to give the G26 another chance to prove itself. If I'm still not happy with it after that it might go on the trading block and I will buy a M&P9c.

Curious to know what makes you guys so unhappy with the G26. I had one, it was my first Glock, for years and loved it. I also was squadded with a guy that won the Florida IDPA state match a few years ago in Sharpshooter (I think) with a 26.

The problem with the G26, for me anyway, is that it is a Glock.

Glocks just aren't the ideal pistol for me. Glocks shred my hands and the trigger has the break of a staple gun.

At the time I bought it, it was the best compromise of size, reliability, and capacity that I could find. I wanted something more substantial as a "Can't carry anything bigger" handgun than my Smith 442.

If the M&P 9C gives the positives of the G26 without the hand shredding or the nasty trigger, I'm more than willing to trade up.

No, no abrasions at all. Ran the fullsize M&P 9 in a 1 day defensive handgun class, about 400 rounds, and then an introductory PSD class the following day for another couple hundred rounds, with no issues.
Interestingly enough, I rememer back to the very first handgun class I ever took. Used a 1911, and before the end of day 1, the bottom edge of my trigger finger had a very uncomfotable blister on it, so I know exactly what your talking about. Havent had that issue with the M&P's, so far.

Marc, I feel partly responsible for that. Shoud have thought it through a bit more on my end. Before you let go of the 26, see if you can find someone with a 9C to try out first. Preferably side by side.

For me, I just never liked, and still really dont like, compact handguns. They all, including the 26, just never shot well for me accuracy and speed wise, and didnt feel good in my hand at all.
