Why exactly is BCM so special?

Why is BCM equiptment considered and thought of so highly on this site and in the AR community? I only have 2 spikes ARs now and am looking to adding a 3rd rifle, specifically a middy, and I hear how BCm is the best. However from what I can gather, they are more expensive as Spikes or DPMS or any other brand (except for the top tier ARs like Noveske or DD, which Im not even looking at until Im out of college) yet they dont come with a BCG, bolt or charging handle.

I can get a brand new Spikes Midlength compete upper on AIMsurplus.com for $479 shipped.

So basically, why is BCM considered superior?

Known quality. Many like me have me have run them hard as shit and haven't had any failures. Pat Rogers has a BCM that has over 40K rounds through it all in training environment which still runs well and still shoots under an inch at 50yds with an Aimpoint. The better question is what's not to like?
