That is so funny I think it is a put-on.

My phone number was very similar to that of an appliance business, Consumer's Warehouse. I got calls for them almost daily. Here's how one went:
Me: Hello.
Them: What do you mean hello?
Me: That's the traditional greeting when answering the phone, hello.
Them: Say "Consumer's Warehouse."
Me: Consumer's Warehouse!
Them: That's better. Is Bill there?
Me: No.
Them: Is Joe there?
Me: No.
Them: Is Mike there?
Me: No.
Them: Where are they?
Me: I don't know.
Them: Well, who's there?
Me: Just me.
Them: Who the hell are you?
Me: Tim.
Them: And you are the only one there??!!
Me: Yep.
Them: Stay there! Don't leave! I'll be there in fifteen minutes!

Had a buddy keep the lady on from the New York Times for 15 minutes. He finally yelled at her, "I can't read, are you happy now, you made me admit it in front of my kids."

I got calls from the Florida Times Union, call after call. Eventually I resorted to threatening to call the publisher, Carl Cannon if they did not leave me alone. They didn't. Look in the phone book, there is is, Carl Cannon's home phone number. I called and told him if it was OK for his people to call me at home it was OK for me to call him at home. The sales calls stopped.

I got call after call from Sears Home Improvements. I stopped that by scheduling an appointment. When the salesman arrived I told him the only thing I would discuss was them removing my number from their list. He made one phone call and it was done.:D
