Defensive Armament
12-12-10, 07:55
Hey guys, this is my first post on the boards. Although, I have bought and traded with a couple of the members on here behind the scenes.
Earlier this year I acquired another AR carbine which was sold to me as a Preban. I've never heard of the Company who made it, so I started researching the interwebs in hopes of finding out something.
Typically when you google anything you can find more than you want to know about something or someone. However, this AR has me at a loss. There is virtually NO concrete info available on this obscure company. I've found a few guys on the web who, like me, have been searching for info and they, like me, have run into nothing but dead ends.
Those of you who frequent ARFCOM may have seen my threads over there. I posted in the general section, retro section and hometown (PA) section since the lower was made in Greentown, PA.

The lower is stamped as follows:
RGM. INC.
GREENTOWN, PA
MOD. MARKSMAN
CAL. 223
SER.# USMC1
This is what I have found:
This one was found on ar15armory.com
More details guys. My memory was off a little. the guns says;
RGM, Inc.
Greentown PA
MOD-Marksman
Ser# USMC 8
I did some research a few years ago. Found a # for a hardware store in Greentown PA and spoke to an old gentleman who remembered RGM as a long defunct machine shop. I assume they must have had a govt contract maybe even in the V-nam era (???). Any way I wish I could find out more but hit a dead end.
This one was found on PAFOA
Back in the middle 1980's there was a gunsmith in central pa.His name was Ralph G Maggiola. Ralph also made investment cast ar 15 lower recievers.HIs initials [RGM]were on each reciever as part of the seriel number
I sold many of his recievers when Bill Clinton introduced the assualt rifle ban.
Hope this helps.....
Found this guy on GB looking for info. I actually contacted this guy, he said he bought two lowers from a gun show in FL back in 1997. They were sold to him as Pre ban too.
RGM (Royal Grinding Machine) in Greenville, Pa. was a M-16
(AR-15) contractor. When did the company close down?
Are the RGM AR-15's with USMC serial numbers collectable?
Thank you much,
Bill
I was also told that it looked to be a cast lower.
That's all folks. It's a freakin' mystery to me. It's bugging the crap out of me. Typically when one needs info it is a click a way........but not wth this company. It seems virtually non existent.
Please help someone, anyone. There has to be someone with some knowledge of this company.
Thanks, Jason
