Anyone have any news on when this rifle will be available?

Probably years, if ever.

Hopefully Magpul learned it's lesson about Bushmaster.

The mods and staff here at M4C got to play with one of the prototypes in 2009.

I liked it, it has a lot of potential.

Is MP actually going to build the Massoud? I thought they sold the build rights to Shrubmaster?

Maybe never.

Also, the ACR hasn't exactly proved that it works well yet, so that dust has to settle before there is a 7.62 version

Not sure if serious? Type ACR into your google window.

You're thinking of the Masada, the Massoud is a completely seperate rifle chambered in .308

I'd still love to get one, but it's not one of those guns I'm going to fool myself will be out in the near future.

Not calling it vaporware at all. Not by a long shot.

Well you certainly can't order one...

so what is it then?

However, I'm also interested in the massoud. So many battle rifles came out in the 20th century and very few had good human engineering.

But by the time it comes out, I'll probably have some 308 AR already.

Well when will extra mags be available for my Scar 17? Im going to chop the barrel on it, any suggestions as to what length and what muzzle device?

I am certainly glad to hear that. I have a 7.62 envelope in the safe, and I may just go ahead and write Massoud on it.

In pencil, for now. ;)

But with the lessons learned from the ACR, I'll probably drop some coin on one, when it comes out.

Is the only difference between the two caliber or are there significant other differences?

Don't shoot the messenger - but what does this offer over say the REPR?

Left side charging handle, piston, SR-25 pattern mags etc.

Folding/collapsing stock, monolithic rail, probably lighter, and possibly quick change barrel.

Good to know.

I totally missed the folding stock *facepalm*

I was wondering what happened to the Massoud project as well.

The latest I've heard of it is that it's making an appearance in the Magpul 2011 calendar.

IIRC, the bolt system is different and while it does have some obvious similarities to the Masada/ACR, there are many differences inside.

Only the guys at Magpul can really answer with any authority.

As of right now I don't see what this gun would offer over the battle tested & available SCAR 17. Other than just another option...

Non reciprocating charging handle.

If I'm not mistaken, the Massoud also has a longer handguard for those who like to grip the handguard as far out as possible.

what is the deal with all the newer "modern" rifles having optics higher and higher from the centerline of the bore.....

not holding my breath for this one.

Pretty sure it's a co-witness thing with the irons. If you stuck some Troy stubbies on there and used a low mount, height would look to be comparable to an AR, if not a tad lower.

In any event, it's a function of getting the barrel more or less in line with your shoulder to reduce recoil. Traditional designs had the sights right on top of the barrel, but the stock shape was not as good for recoil management.

In any event, the bore/sight offset is a mixed blessing. It allows you to dial in a "battle zero" that will get the job done with only a few inches vertical deviation from POA from 0-300 yards.
