Just came across this Apple app called Starwalk which allows you to hold up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to the night sky and produce a star map identifying about any object in the night sky. Plus it has a bunch of other features as well.

I've always had an astronomy bug (all those Star Trek shows--the original series, mind you--as a kid). Even went so far as to buy a telescope a couple of years back but have never really used it enough to become proficient at orienting myself in the night sky and being able to readily identify objects which would be interesting to view. This app looks like a really slick tool to take the guesswork out of navigating the heavens.
Pretty slick gift at five bucks if you know somebody that's into star gazing (and owns a compatible Apple product).
