View Full Version : Elevation Adjustable BUIS?
Im in the market for a good BUIS that is elevation and windage adjustable for my flat top DDM4v1. Carry handle is out as ill be wanting to mount optics soon. can anybody recommend a good company/product? Price isnt a factor as long as it isnt through the roof. Thanks all.

YHM and LMT both offer a product that does this.

You can also take a detachable carry handle and cut off the carry handle part.
KAC 200-600 meter BUIS.

+1 on the KAC sight..even though they are a it pricey but if price isnt an issue then your fine.
Matech also has a rear adj. BUIS which is what the military issues on their M4s. There are mixed reviews on these I never had an issue with mine. Worked great for me.
I believe the LMT ones are fixed and the matech and KAC are folding. Not sure if that matters to you or not.
+2 on the KAC sight. Not only is it elevation adjustable, the elevation clicks exactly match a standard A2 rear sight.

Matech makes the sight that is standard BUIS for both the M4 and the M16A4. Here is a link to a thread discussing it: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=10875
I think they are a good sight, I never ran into the trouble with the one on my M4. I am not somebody who is constantly taking it off/ putting it on, so I haven't had any of the experiences with the retention screw threads becoming stripped. I did see one that would pop up once and a while, when the rifle was being fired though.
the Matech is GTG...
(the windage knob gets a bit in the way if you are right handed and use that right hand to manipulate the charging handle with 2 fingers.. this little issue can be solved by mounting the BUIS 1 notch forward)
but the KAC is simpler, smaller, lighter (=better!) ;)
Not a fan of the Matech as it does not have a large aperture.
If you have problems with it popping up sometimes you can tap the small pin back in and it will stop...for a while.
Great info. I was wondering why the selection of elevation-adjustable BUIS is so slim... It'd be nice to be able to run a RDS and have the option to set up the irons for long(er) distance shooting w/o having to swap to a magnified optic.
Thanks.
thanks for the info, ive always been kind of leery of flip up sights, seem like they would have more of a likelihood of breaking or being more fragile than say the LMT. any truth in this or do they hold their own?

The only flip up sight I can speak for so far is the matech as I havent used my troys yet. But the matech is on my issued M4 and through the last deployment that rifle got the hell beat out of it and I never had any issues with the function of it. It seemed to be very durable.

This is a great option, I've done a couple now and they work great, giving you about 4" of rail for an optic. You end up with a rear sight like the LMT but for much less.
I've picked up a few true milspec carry handles on eBay for about $35 so the price is right if you're careful. Don't see them every day but if you're patient they turn up. (Lots of knockoffs and commercial height carry handles for sale so be sure you get milspec height and a known forge mark.)
