I'm pretty much set on loading my Ruger GP100 for HD with .38 Spls for low recoil/flash/noise/overpenetration reasons. I've got plenty of these Gold Dot 135 grain +P's and was thinking about using these but should I be concerned it might not perform very well in a 4" barrel because they're specified for "short barrel" revolvers?

This is my carry load in my S&W 442 and it is extremely accurate in my 4" Python. I now carry it in my 2", 3" & 4" revolvers. Makes life a lot easier.

Given the requirements you have relating to low recoil, noise, etc... this load should be OK, and so would the 148 grain target wdcutters. But to your specific question... YES, it would be fine.

The Gold Dot's strong point is it's performance through a pretty wide velocity window. It'll work fine.

Anyone run them in an old style Airweight J Frame?

Yeah, I know the Airweights are not +P rated, but were generally acceptable (on a very limited basis) with +P such as the 158 gr LSWHP, (aka the old FBI load).

Yup. Even in my early 50's vintage Airweight. I've got several thousand rounds of +P through my Airweights. I've had them tightened up a few times over the last 30 years or so to get rid of end shake, etc., , that's it.
