CUCV's used to be a fairly common sight on military bases, but probably not so much any more. I work on a National Guard installation in Northern Arizona, and we have a few dilapidated ones that are used for hunters to drive around post during hunting season.
Below is a musty old article from 2001 on this program. Hadn't realized that the Army (and probably others) considered it a disaster and don't want to repeat the experience:
