Posted this over on a different site thought I'd get some other opinions.
M&P 40 Frame Stamped REV N Serial MPM 773X
Purchased in 2007, around 10000 plus in that time span.
Issues, dropped mags. S&W sent replacement mag catch, Midway through round count Right side slide stop broke sent back to S&W on their dime issue fixed.
Most of ammo was WWB or other store bought.

Recently ran several hundred of my own reloads, round nose lead at 7.2 grains hs6. Lynman reloading version #49
Weapon would not reset, upon dissassembly discovered this broken firing pin.

Yes, that old (black) striker is a known issue. The updated part has been available for maybe a year or so.

Thanks, Haven't really been shooting the M&P since I discovered the 1911 platform, so I haven't been up on any issues. I've got an Email to S&W customer service hopefully they'll just exchange parts vs sending the gun in.

I have seen quite a few broken firing pins in M&Ps at the agency where I assist as a group facilitator. Almost all reportedly from officers who do a lot of dry firing.

That's an old style firing pin. Known defective design. If S&W send you a new one you can get 'em from G&R for only a few bucks.

Broken firing pins with the old black ones was pretty common. The new silver Gen 5 has fixed this issue. Call S&W per www.M4Carbine.net rule No. 4
