View Full Version : Questions about the 18" S2W barrel in 5.56

I see that DD is now offering the S2W profile in an 18" 5.56 chambered barrel. I have a few questions about it:

1) DD is currently offering this in a midlength gas system setup. A lot of other manufacturers make their 18" barrels with either a rifle length gas or intermediate length gas setup, and I've read that rifle length gas is reliable on barrels as short as 17" even in zero F. temperatures. Why did DD choose the midlength gas arrangement? What buffer would you recommend if using this with a carbine buffer tube?

2) What is the smallest diameter of the barrel just before the muzzle?

3) Can you tell us the weight of this barrel stripped, and for comparison the weight of your 16" midlength gov't profile and lightweight profile barrels?

4) Tieing in with the weight question, would you describe the overall profile as on average being medium or heavy?

Thanks!
