by gusset you mean the buttplate? youre supposed to screw the plate onto the end of the tube, like the GI plate attaches to the tube. i think the stock comes with a new screw also.

For completeness, which stock are you talking about? Ace m4, Socom, arfx, etc

It has been a long while since I messed around with an M4 SOCOM stock but you screw the tube in to where it is correctly placed. The "gusset" should be around the tube and slid down the tube until the protrusion on the bottom fits into the indentation on the bottom of the receiver. Then you tighten the cross screw to tighten the gusset onto the tube. The protrusion on the bottom of the gusset should still be protruding into the indentation in the receiver.

Does that cross screw stop the gusset from moving rearward. Seems very weak. Do you have detail pics showing the install. I was hoping that there was more to prevent that gusset moving then just the screw sclamping the gusset tight.
Friction. The screw pulls the gusset tight on the tube. It doesn't move. Lots of friction as that gusset is pretty wide.
I don't have any pics of install or anything. Have not done one in like 5 or 6 years. This is from memory.
