Interesting article and Vid on Military.com Kitup. I wonder if they're knock offs.

Off-set much?

So does this mean the ak purists will be falling over themselves to put eotechs on their guns now that the Russians use them?

Interesting to see if these are actual L-3 EOTECHs or reverse engineered clones.

Right...I'm really diggin that chin weld.

TOrrock

Those people never really figured out the concept of a cheek weld.

And you know, I'm OK with that.

kal

I'm not surprised they like eotechs.

If they are reverse engineered, I bet they don't have the red dot, only the ring. The Russians see everything as an area target.

Wow, I wonder if some of those are domestic targets, particularly the house that they make a hole with a tank and then finish it off with some explosives.

Running an AK to its potential, I think it's more important to have a good pair of gloves than a proper cheek weld. My hands just don't take all those rough communist edges well.

I did just buy an Aimpoint R-1 at Midway on clearance which I think is destined for a good AK once I find one that is nicer than my WASR.

There was some footage in the OP's link I recognized as being a very real operation I saw on liveleak. The liveleak video stated the operation was in Chechnya.

Off-set much?

No kidding. The dude at 0:30 seconds isn't even going to clear what's in front of him if he fires.

Oh, and was that guy at the end sporting a scorpion?

Pretty amazing how much firepower they used. Must have been some naughty naughty bad guys they were hunting.

At 1:11 There is a PKM with a eotech but more interesting to me is the carry handle on the PKM I have never seen that design before.

I would much rather use ultimax rail with a aimpoint micro.
for the Ak's .

I can't imagine the Russians getting an export permit from US State Dept so to supply a unit they must have come up with knock-offs.

Also, I wonder why they don't mount the rds in front of the rear sight. It seems they still think of it like a conventional scope which needs to be close to the eye.

It's a 6P41 Pecheneg LMG.

It's basically a PKM with a non-quick changable barrel for use as a one-man squad suppressive fire weapon. The barrel is ribbed and has a jacket around it.

....and it fires the big-ass 7.62x54R.:D

Can't the Russians simply buy Aimpoints directly from Sweden, or is there some bad blood between the two nations?

Probably a KLIN or KEDR subguns, built by Izmash. The Russians haven't used Czech hardware since the Warsaw Pact had a going out of business sale 20 years ago.

RPG-18, lightweight throw-away, very similar to the LAW.

Does anyone know why those off-sets are so dramatic? Is it cheaper/easier to manufacture scope attachments like that than something set lower? Or is it a product of the gun? Or is it simply how they did it in the old days and the Ruskies are slow catching up?

TOrrock

The Russians always want to see their iron sights.

I don't know why, every time I see them shooting, they're not using them.

The Russians can certainly put out an extremely rugged, practical weapon, but their training and tactics are light years behind ours. Completely different doctrine.

I should just step off of my soap box before my anti-Russian rant gets really wound up.

Is that because their optics always go TU? ;)

Looks eerily similar to the reticle in the knock offs SMG Lee posted about in a warning from EOTech.

I was thinking (on the guy at 1:55) SR-3 Vikhr or AS "Val" with its supressor dismounted, but you are probably right. Good call.

I made it on microsoft paint, to depict the Russian way of treating all threats, close and far, as "area targets". :sarcastic:

oh and I just want to throw this in and that's it.:sarcastic:

The Moscow Theater hostage crisis was a perfect example of the Russian attitude, training, and tactics.

They had to kill those hostages in order to save them!

The Beslan School crisis is another example.

Agreed. If they have to kill every hostage to kill the terrorist, then so be it.

The problem with spetz is, they are too busy learning ninja flips and combat rolls to learn target discrimination.

I'm still trying to figure out why they use EOtechs when they have a variety of their own to choose from.

They got Kobras, and some of those PK-somethings, lol.

RogerinTPA

Simple, they are trying to duplicate what most of our SOF uses or used to use, to great effect.

According to a reliable source, the only reason they are even able to do these remarkable jumping feats is because of regular Prisyadki dancing as children.
