Okay, I detailed strip my MKIII because it was extremely dirty. After about an hour of disassembly and cleaning I started to put the gun back together. Everything was going smoothly until the last step. The ms housing installation. I press the hammer up with my punch as usual but when I secure on the slide there is no spring tension to close it. This happened to me before but it was usually because the hammer leg would move but I am completely puzzled. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your time.

P.S. It was my first time detail stripping the MKIII and I used this (http://www.guntalk-online.com/detailstrip.htm#bolt) for my sources.

The "hammer leg" tip must go into the little cup in the MS housing in order to work. Also, the round floppy extension of the MS housing that goes up in the receiver must go all the way up through it. If it does not, it won't catch the recoil spring eye.

This TD system is one problem with an otherwise excellent design.

Try this. Push the bolt (slide) all the way forward. Push the hammer all the way forward so that it is uncocked. In order to do this you need to put in a magazine and pull the trigger. Push the floppy piece up through the receiver with the MS housing still out of the grip frame. Then tip up the muzzle so that the hammer strut goes into the little hammer spring cup, being careful to not let the hammer go back to the cocked position. Then close the mainspring housing with the locking lever.

Take it and go to your nearest body of water and throw that son of a b!tch in the deepest part. I have busted more knuckles and cursed more trying to get my old MKIII back together than in all the new serpentine belts, water pumps, etc. in my life put together.

This is the trick. You're going to have to rotate it around to get it to do what you want.

I finally got the thing together. Not sure why it wasn't going in but it finally did. Detail stripping the things is easier than putting the ms housing in place. :P

If what they said still doesnt help check out youtube. I have an old MK nothing and they have a few very good videos on disassembly and reassembly. The main trick is to invert the weapon at the right time and it will go together.
