Now he understands the plight of the common man. Unfortunately Maryland is so far left that it may take a Supreme Ct. decision on the right to carry under the 2nd Amendment before this can be corrected.

When former Frederick County Sheriff Robert C. Snyder applied for a "right-to-carry," gun permit several years ago, he had every reason to believe it would be granted.

The former lawman had served for 24 years on the Maryland State Police and was sheriff for eight years.

"I wanted a revolver to carry in my car," Snyder recalled. "I wanted one for protection if we were traveling."

Imagine his surprise at learning that the Maryland State Police denied his permit application. Snyder said he was told a permit would be granted only if his life were threatened and he had documentation to prove it.

I would venture a guess that if you had been a LEO for 24 years, chances are you have arrested and sent some bad guys to jail who may or may not be seeking revenge. I would think personally that that would be a threat on his life. Maybe I am wrong though.

That's not good enough for Maryland.

The good news is that I think that MD will be a Shall Issue state in the future.

I was under the impression that once one attained the job of police officer one was able to carry anywhere, and that said duty extended into retirement?

I remember president Bush passing a law for all police officers active, retired or moved to diffrent field of work that they could carry anywhere, anytime, forever.

That would and should work in most any case. This is why it's important to live in a shall issue state. :(

I hope the decision is not reversed, but rather it stays. If a common citizen cannot carry, then neither should any other "citizen," regardless of past career choices.

You want to carry? Fix the law so that everyone else can as well. Don't try to get special privileges tailored just for you. He knew full well before going into it that the average citizen couldn't carry, so to assume that he could after the fact is plain stupid.

I'm all for the ex-sheriff being able to carry, but NOT if the average citizen cannot. Force enough of these officials to conform to the laws they've forced on their subjects and you'll see laws changing for the better in no time.

Fix the problem, not the symptom.

I like that. Let's see Mayor Daley walk across Chicago without a gun (i.e., no armed escort) without getting killed.

Got to say I agree with that glad you put it in that light

HR218.

That is thanks SHIVAN. I will have to read it over and see what it says in detail.

That's kinda how I see it. I'm not a big fan of "liberty for some." And I have had more than one officer advise me that if I don't like the law they are enforcing I should get it changed.

I must say that unfortunately 500grains is on a temporary vacation. We've asked that threads relating to LE be discontinued. This is his second (maybe more) time starting one.

Sorry all, but we need to follow the rules.
