I am thinking about purchasing a used optic, an Aimpoint comp ml3

and before I purchase I was wondering what are some tips in identifying a genuine aimpoint.

Aimpoint has a section on their website about how to identify fakes. Most of the tips require physically having the sight but there are some other tips you can use.

I'd want to see the sight without the cover on and look at the markings and lenses

Put a battery in, turn it on, and wait 2 years, if it is still on after that, it's a real aimpoint.

You probably want something more immediate....
