Hey all,

I recently received my Samson mfg. Evolution rail and got it all mounted to my Noveske. Pics first review ater:

Here it is mounted in the vise block, note the bulging of the block to account for the tabs on the rail itself that "hug" the front of the receiver.http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll50/wintertyrant/2011-01-06_21-55-17_968.jpg

Review: This is my first review of a product so bear with me.

I was in the market for a rail for my REECE and could not decide on what to get, I definately did not want a quad rail because I only planned to mount either an AFG or a handstop and possibly a light. I also wanted one of tubular design for shooting comfort and smaller size. After following multiple threads about the release of the rail plus a small review and in depth pictoral of the rail itself and the mounting system by Stick I decided on this rail for my Noveske.

I got in contact with Scott Samson himself and had a couple questions about the rail including which would work with my rifle and what rail to go with, I placed my order on Dec 20. and received it on Jan 6 which I think is quick shipping because of the holiday season. I regret not taking pics of the unboxing process but had work the next day and wanted to throw the rail on asap.

In the box I received three sections of picatinny rail with mounting hardware, one long section and two short sections. I also received the rail as well as the heat sink that mounts onto the factory barrel nut. I did not receive any instructions in the box.

overall impressions of the rail are that it exudes utmost quality and attention to detail. The coating on the rail was consistent and had no aesthetic flaws that I could find and the color actually matches my rifle quite well although the pics say otherwise. I also thought the rail was very lightweight, once again this is my first and only rail purchase so I have nothing but mfg. rail specs to go off as far as how it compares in weight to other tubular designs. The machining on the side is very precise, the machined out sections contain sharp edges which would be perfect grip spots for someone wearing gloves. They are also not nearly sharp enough to cut the naked flesh and provide great bite when gripping it.

The mounting solution that Samson came up with is ingenious to me, it takes two crescent peices of metal that have a spline like exterior that the rail slides atop of and locks into. These peices also contain holes that fit over the teeth of the stock barrel nut. When installing these heatsink pieces I would like to add that in order to mount the rail I had to snap these crescent heatsinks onto the barrel nut because the holes don't allow them to just drop onto the nut. This in my opinion is great because it assures a stiffer and tighter lockup of the rail to the gun. The only thing that holds the rail to the heatsinks are two allen screws that clamp the rail to the sinks, it is very tight and after a failed attempt to pull it off I believe that this will hold very well. I have yet to shoot the gun with the rail on partly because when I was taking the pins of my fsb out I completely fubar'd one of them so right now my fsb only has one pin in it but also I have no ammo:sad:. I am awaiting another order of 1k rounds and will test it asap and post how cool the rail stays.

I would also like to add that my experience with Samson's customer service was very positive. I was ready to order the rail but didn't know which one, there was the 9" or the 9"EX so I contacted Samson. I received an email back from Scott that same night (around 10p.m) about what the difference was. The EX is designed to fit the Adams Arms piston system. Any questions I had for Scott he answered quickly and politely despite the elementary nature of some of the questions. The only thing I think they could improve on would be an instruction sheet in the package, despite the fact that I am mechanically inclined I had to refer to the great pics that were taken by Stick to help me in some areas. I also would have liked to be given the opportunity to trade one of the shorter 2" sections of rail for Samsons QD sling attachment section. Overall though I am very happy with my decision to go with this rail and salute Scott for putting out such a nice piece of kit, I have a suppressed sbr build in progress right now and will probably be going with the same type of rail for that gun as well.

Pros:Lightweight
Great machining
Good color match
Grippy
Super solid
Comfort
Mounting system
Ability to mount rail sections in different areas on the handguard

Cons:No instructions, once again this is a small complaint and I still had it mounted in under thirty mins.
No QD rail section, I know that this might matter to some but its really not that big a deal to me and I will probably buy the section in the future.

If anyone has any questions please ask or if someone wants some different pics I can take them, also if someone has a lone fsb pin they don't want send it my way ! I also apologize for the quality of the pics, I only had my phone and when given the choice between a nice camera or nice rifle I think you know what I opted for.:D

Nice review, but it seems that these days manufacturers are focusing more and more on the cool factor of designing these rails. No offense, but I personally would never buy a rail with those squiggly things on the side. Nice review.:p

Nice review. Would love to see an 11" and 12.37" set of these on a 14.5" upper. Would even settle for a 16" upper.

Pretty sure I want a set, but I would like to see them in my application before ordering. I am between these, DD Omega, and Vltor CASV-M. I have a pinned 14.5" barrel so the plan is to shave the FSB in place (have done this a few times). These are the best options I have found where removal of the barrel nut is not needed.
