Fred's has them. He occasionally runs out. He's out of birch right now, but has walnut.

That stock came from Fulton Armory at least 10 years ago. I was very impressed with the tiger like figure on the birch so I didn't stain it.

Fred would be your best bet.

Here's mine when she wore camo. Now she's sitting in a plain USGI brown fiberglass with USGI web sling.

Springfield Armory, Inc. with TRW barrel (got it new in 2003, so just about last of USGI barrels and some parts). Added an H&R trigger group, sold the Boyd's walnut stock and got several from Fred's (one walnut USGI and 2 fiberglass USGI), replaced neutered suppressor with NM non-neutered one, and Skyhawk kit.

This is my 18" M1-A. It originally came with a folding stock, but that was not a whole lot of fun to shoot, so I traded it off for an standard M-14 G.I. walnut stock (Complete with selector switch cut out). I recently traded that stock for the factory synthetic stock. This is a "Pre-Scout" (No forward scope rail on the barrel), version called a "Bush rifle". I need a few more mags though....so far all I have is one factory 10 round mag, two factory five round mags, two Type 57's 20 round mags and five USGI 20 round mags:

I put the Magpul UBR stock on it, Tango Down pistol grip, Leupold 2.5-8X 36 scope, Harris bipod, Tango Down QD foregrip, Surefire M600 w/ KX2C head, and Troy front and rear BUIS. Internally I added a one piece NM op rod guide, Wolff high power spring, Sadlak extended mag release, and an SEI extended bolt release.

Not a new purchase, but dusted it off after a log period of dormancy.

The rifle is a Springfield Armory Inc. M1A serial 0420xx, built in June of 1987. I purchased it off of a guy back in June of '04 and probably haven't shot it in three years. It has a TRW bolt, HR - N trigger group and TRW op rod. I am not versed in M1A / M14 lore well enough to know any other significant markings on components.

I put 20 rounds of Australian .308 FMJ through it the other day and man, does it shoot nice.

nice set up you have there but your plastic hand guard is on backwards same on Alex22s, i fixed his for him the other day. i don't think it really matters but it was designed to go the other way with the cut out on the right side for the op rod. i'll try and get mind on here. and what bi-pod is that, GG&G?

ryanm
08-17-09, 00:27
I didn't realize I had it backwards!

The bipod is the Bobro gen3. I have a tango down for this rifle now and an Mk14mod1 build/parts pile/M1A waiting for me when I get home.

I love this bipod, but its going on another rifle.

I also ended up going with a pair of the leupolds for the Mk14 builds. One is in FDE, ther other black for this rifle--but basically the same model scopes. I picked up the badger Mk 14 rings for the Mod1.

I do not recommend the 25rd magazines, the first 3 rounds jam. No problems at all with the 20rd magazines.

Also, the T1 tended to want to shoot loose. It definitely needed to be on an aftermarket mount for this rifle.

Are you sure about this being backwards? I just looked at the rest of the EBRs on this thread as well as the Sage booklet and the Armstrong NAVSEA spec and it looks like I have it on correctly.

EBR's depending on accessories, barrel length, Optics, accoutremounts usually run <>13 lbs or so.

Typical and normal for a real 7.62 Battle Rifle.

Mod 1 is 10.6 lbs and add a 1 LB for bi pod.

Then add Optics/mount, light etc. so you can see the 13 lbs. is the mark to beat..

This link is VERY helpful w/ good solid EEI...

My M1a.

I did a little research and found out that it was sold as a Springfield Armory barreled action made between Dec 73 and Apr 74.
It has a SA USGI op rod and flash hider, Saco Defense barrel, Winchester bolt and a H&R trigger group. It's been glass bedded in a M14 stock and has match sights and a really nice crisp trigger pull.

That would be considered a "Devine" era M1A and it is worth a good bit, most Devine M1As sell between 3 and 4K. The one I have pictured a few posts above is serial number 00600.

Ozzy
01-15-10, 19:21
I haven't hunted with it yet. It is an awesome scope. I originally bought it for one of my AR's but the SPR 1.5 is not quite extended enough. It is perfect for this rifle/rail though.

I love this rifle. My only complaint is feeding the beast....Luckily I do reload.

I have tossed around the thought of trading it for an SPR, A4gery or an M4gery, but I'm not aggressively searching.

I hear good and bad about the SOCOM's and M1A's in general. I havent run this one hard (probably never will) but she has not hiccuped yet in over 500 rounds.

Mine is a SOCOM II by the way.

Could someone direct me on where i can find this sling? Thanks.

Hop, how do you like that Kreiger barrel?

Serpico1985
03-09-10, 09:28
Skipbo32,

I have a Vltor on my 18.5 inch M14 clone. It is an awesome stock. Very light weight. The stock adjustment both forward and backwards and up and down lets you get exactly where you want to for that perfect cheek weld.

There are only a couple of issues with the stock that are pretty easily fixed.

1) The finish: the finish is a black crinkle finish similar to what is on a SA rifle. It does not hold up very well and will start chipping with moderate use in the mag well area. A easy fix to this is strip the finish and refinish with duracoat or ceracoat. While your doing the refinish got ahead and get it bedded. USGI stocks benefit from bedding, you'll tighten your groups up

2) The stock adjustment: This isn't really necessarily a downside just something to be aware of. When you put some sort of optic on there and adjust the stock up to get a good cheek weld, you won't be able to use the irons. You won't be able to get low enough to see them. If your optic fails you would have to get out the adjustment wrench and loosen the nut, lower the stock and re-tighten.

If you don't like the tango down grip that comes with it you can put other grips on there. I used a Magpul Miad with the largest backstrap. It requires some sanding but really fills up the hand it that's something you like. If your interested in that let me know and I'll explain how to do it.

Good luck, let me know if you have any particular questions.

I may have my mod 0 upgraded to your setup. I'm thinking about trying out the Navy muzzle compensator. I have the vortex style flash suppressor on the Mod 0 but I think it has an adverse impact on muzzle climb. The factory compensator is more effective for reducing the hop on my Mod 1. Looks like you have something similar to a vortex, but with a holes instead of slits?

Man when I look at all those mods I can see the $$$ just adding up. FMJs-of-Freedom

Not as bad as one might think. Bought the guns off of Gunbroker with the Troy MCS included for around the same price as a National Match with wood stock.

All the other 'work' on my guns I do myself, since it is something I can do in the evenings or weekends if I cannot make it to the range or hunting. Needless to say, I have some smooth running guns!

I probably (as in I couldn't find anything) have less in these than comprable AR's that I looked at (POF and LWRC).

With the Troy MCS stocks take down and mods are a breeze. The only things I don't like are the safety location and the lack of a apendextrious charging handle, everything else I am cool with!

Navy Grey Sage EBR Mod 1 with Bushy inside. SEI Vortex Flashhider, USO SN3 1.5-6X, or Aimpoint M4, Rock River Bipod, Sadlak Gas Piston and oprod spring guide. All GI except barrel, thinking of ordering a Kreiger.

Beautiful Rifle my friend.

What barrel length is that, 16? And what is the collapsed over all length of that rifle. I am just waiting for the gov to stop collecting interest on my money, and I want to start one of these for my Armscorp.

Does anyone know where to find the Navy Grey stock?

Custom, one off ACOG mount.
Sits the scope low enough for me to use my iron sights.
Just a little something I came up with.

I have'nt got to shoot it since I completed it. But I modified the Sage stripper clip mount because I didnt like the way it was attached, Sage used a tiny set screw to hold in place. I beefed it up with a socket head cap screw to really hold it in place. It never moved when I had a 3x magnifier on it, so I dont think it will move now. I'll let you know after I get to shoot it.

Shown below is my Company's gem:
Winchester M14
Sage EBR Stock
Leupold Mk 4 3.5-10x
Unknown Scope Mnt
GG&G Bipod
PVS-22

Now the real interesting part, all 12 of the 14's we got here, are 1.5 MOA and under according to Rock Island Arsenal, on average they are .75 MOA, this one however is .33 and is a dream for here.

P.S. Sorry bout the pics, still don't know how to post them the real way like the rest of you guys do.

ChoppinFatTony

Your welcome brother

Yes i am def digging the AFG, running it without the finget notch and pushed it way up on my rail cause it feels alot more natural pushed up there.

ChoppinFatTony, seeing that M14 sitting in the Sage with the Leupold on top literally makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I humped one of those things for a good 4 months in and around Mahmudiyah in 2005-2006. I wish we would have had some of the NV stuff you have on yours though, that was a big limitation with ours.

I hear you on that brother. You were rolling down there, i was up in Samara then, wild trip that one for both of us that rotation.
We gotten our 1st M14's right before we deployed: fiberglass stocks, no optic/mnts and 3 mags apiece. A few months in, the Bn bought the Sage's and a mixed bag of optics.
It was only untill this past November that the Army got off there ass and issued the rifle above. Leupold Mk4's, good bipods, mags and all under 1.5 MOA.
The NV is a dream, cause i've been humping one of these rifles in one form or another since i graduated Sniper school in 05, and the dark was our biggest setback aswell. Clamp it on the rail, focus it and your good to go with one of these PVS-22's. Aslong as the lum is good,
10x is crystal clear in the dark.

I picked up a Socom II for a great price a while back and really didn't like the heavy cheese grate type rail or bedliner coated stock. I added a M1A Scout mount and walnut stock for a more traditional look; it is much lighter & handles better.
