Greetings,

I did a search but came up nil.

I have a Colt .22 conversion kit for my Colt AR. I have fired a few hundred rounds using it over the years and have not noticed anything wrong with the rifle afterward.

Am I causing any damage to my barrel/chamber? I just got a new upper, and someone at the range told me that these things were hard on the barrels. I know that we trained with these in the Army back in the day when they were saving on ammo.

If this is doing damage, I'll toss it. If it is GTG, I will go buy a few hundred more rounds of .22...

Thanks.

.22lr ammo are dirty...just shoot some 5.56 rounds when you stop using the conversion to clean the barrel and gas tube.
I guess using .22 copper plated ammo helps keeping the rifle cleaner

After shooting .22 I run a bore snake with cleaner through the barrel while it's warm, then shoot 5 rounds of 5.56 to blow out the gas system.
When I get home, I give it a proper cleaning.
It helps to use copper wash ammo like Winchester 555, Federal 550, or CCI Mini mags. Doesn't leave as much crud.

OK, thanks.

I just wanted to make sure that the conversion kit was not damaging the barrel/chamber.

Thanks for the feedback. Have a great day!
