Has anyone used or played with the 6PL or G2L? These appear to be surefire's standard lights with their own "P" series LED drop in.

I guess these are running SSC based LED's. I have made a couple Luxeon P bulbs and bought a couple of the new Cree drop ins people have been selling, but haven't seen these yet.

I have played with both and own the G2 led as do a few guys I know. I am very happy with brightness and battery life of it. It has a good beam focus and shoots it out a good distance and definitely has a good battery life. It’s rated at 80lumens and 12 hours of life for the G2 led the 6P is the same lumen wise but an hour less battery life which is probably due to the metal body or some other factor.

They are pretty good and cheap way for folks to get into a high quality LED I think.

Are the LED heads available aftermarket for the G2's I already have?

I'm thinking these may be a good way to go for my weapons lights.

I'm currently running a G2 with shock bezel and a p60 bulb inside or for outside a p91 bulb and 9v conversion. Although I need a new p91 bulb.

Yes. Also, don't buy any more incan bulbs from SF until you look at the Lumens Factory bulbs!

Grant, do you have an approximate price for the Surefire LED bulb?

I think retail on the G2L is $65.

Grant is that the whole flashlight or just the lamp?

Wow. What's the cost for the whole light?

We are talking about two different things here. The SF G2L retails at $65. A drop in CREE LED runs around the $40-$50 range.

Sorry, I think I got you now.

So the LED lamp that SF is using for the G2L isn't available, but the whole light is $65 and if I want a CREE to replace the lamp in the G2 I have it runs $40-50. Am I following right? Sorry, the heat and lack of rain here must have dried out my brains!

The Surefire manufactured P60L LED modules are supposed to be available for sale seperately in Nov/07 with a retail of $36.00

That is what I have heard. Personally, I don't think this is a good deal as you can get CREE LED's for the same to less money.

I'm pretty impressed with the 6PL.

Soooooo, can someone make a suggestion as to which lamps I can buy TODAY that will direct fit my G2 and Z2?

You can get a pretty nice LED brighter than my x200a for $12.50 shipped from Hong Kong.

Yes- you might have to take the outer spring off to get it to fit your G2 all the way- sometimes the cap doesn't close the last half mm...

Just installed mine and it is much brighter with no dark areas. I am wondering what the battery life will be though.

Does anyone know who actually makes these? Are these durable enough to use with a weapon light?

I have several of the Chinese replacement Cree heads for my SF lights as well as a stock G2L. I see no appreciable difference in brightness or throw. The eBay Cree heads fit fine in the 6P, G2, and the standard tac lights. I've shot them on 12ga and LR308 w/ no problems.
