View Full Version : BFG/Vickers AK Sling!

I asked the good folks at BFG if they could make me an AK sling out of the Vickers model. I asked for a mash hook (http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=5&prod_id=80) to be sewn into the sling as it would help remove slack out. The mash hooks were chosen over the HK snap hooks because they ride better in the front AK loop. They are also much stronger than the HK hook as well.

The second part of the sling features a fastex, quick release buckle with one of BFG's universal adapters (http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=5&prod_id=74). This adapter allows you to thread it through the AK sling swivel on the stock, making it very secure. The best part about this attachment point is that you can position the slings ride point at the 6 o'clock position just like I can on my AR with the use of the DD rear receiver plate (http://www.gandrtactical.com/images/archive/BFG/Vickers%20GR%20version%20mounted.jpg). This makes the slings much more useable and comfortable for the following tasks:

Weapon transition.
Switching shoulders to shoot offhand.
Doesn't interfere with the shooters cheek rest.

As a LONG time AR shooter and new AK shooter, there were many issues I had with the weapons ergonomics. This sling fixes one of my major issues with the AK and hopefully this sling will give AK shooters a new and better option for the mounting of a sling.

Hello,

How well does that optic co-witness?

Kudos on the sling. I might pick an extra up.

Perfectly.

BFG and Vickers did all the heavy lifting, I just told them what attachment I wanted on the sling.

Can the sling still pivot to fold and lock?

BFG continues to impress me with their products and their willingness to accept new requests for products.

Grant the BFG sling i purchased from you with the built in QD attachments is just about as perfect as a piece of gear can get.

Kudos to both of you. Keep the product innovations and improvements coming!!!

BFG is an impressive company for sure. Their QD Vickers sling is just about one of the best things going on the AR market IMHO. Everyone that comes into my shop and asks about which sling to buy, gets handed my AR. After 2 minutes of showing them how to work it, they are sold on it.

So Grant when will you have this for sale on your website?

Nicely done, Grant.

I must say though, I've come to actually get used to the rear pivot on the other side arrangement. The my chin on the strap doesn't really even get noticed anymore. Worked for me in LAV's class, anyway...

Soon I think. Was just trying to see if there was any public interest in it before I ordered some.

You can run it that way as well. For switching shoulders though, the 6 o'clock position is much easier to deal with.

Grant,

I'm wondering if the SOC-CTM MODULAR FRONT BAND ADAPTER would work well on the AK-100 series stock...

See what I mean?

Don't know for sure. Doesn't your AK have the front snap hook slot?

I'm referring to putting it on the buttstock.

Just from looking at it, it seems that it would secure around the stock and at the swivel, allowing for the QD mount to face forward on the left side.

Sorry, was looking at it going on the front. I think you could most likely do it, but you adding extra cost the the sling setup.

We actually have two new versions of our AK sling available.

The first one has the mash hook and the universal loop and is made out of the same material as the BFG Victory sling.

The second AK sling we have uses the mash hook, universal loop and is padded. This version is NOT up on the website yet.

So which sling would this be from your site? It's listed as the VCAS-200-AK and the description is "Vickers Padded Sling for AK47 with Mash Hook and SOC-C-LL." Just curious since I should be receiving one of these from you tomorrow.

Excellent sling Grant. I was holding off getting one until I could find one that was functional. This IS the ticket! ;) Kudos to BFG and Larry V. Let us know when they will be made available on your website.
