What's the most rounds you've shot through your AR and not cleaned it? Was it still reliable? I'm just curious. I've shot maybe 500 or so rounds without cleaning it. I'm just curious how far some go without cleaning it up!

Thanks.

About 1700. 1400 in an EAG class out of that amount. No cleaning just lubed it...

Probably only about 300. I'm anal about cleaning everything after a trip to the range.

Over 2,000 in a 14.5" Bushmaster and more than 2,000 through an LMT 10.5" added lubed and they both ran without issue. I imagine both would have just kept running until something broke.

5182 rounds. Had to clean it after that because the trigger stopped resetting (disconnector wouldn't let go of the hammer). It was crazy filthy and oozing lube like an old Harley. The whole time it was lubed with WeaponShield. This was my LMT 10.5" SBR with the old barrel, over 3K rounds of that was suppressed. This was the SBR I used in the Magpul Dynamics video 'Art of the Tactical Carbine 2'. I never cleaned it after that class until 5182 rounds.

Wasn't too bad. Slip2000 752 degreaser and hot water does a great job.

north of 2k Wolf steel cased, no problems, would drip lube on the BCG every now and again with FP-10. That was a RRA, I dont think Ive gone over 2k, prob around 1 to 1.5 at most on my Colt that replaced it between cleanings.

I've got 2 currently, both frankenguns, with over 2500 rounds each including a class apiece. The major componets on one are all DD, the other ones parts being BCM. I guess it's time but they are both still 100%. The DD is a 16" pencil middie and the BCM is a 14.5" pencil middie.

According to this (https://www.m4carbine.net/showpost.php?p=614805&postcount=14), Pat Rogers got his 'Filthy 14' up to around 26,000 rounds before he started experiencing reliability issues with it. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

1000 rounds give or take with a suppressor. My follow on cleaning consisted of wiping the BCG off and relubing.

Just over 2200 on my Colt. Just light lube, trying to beat the hell out of the Fail Zero bcg I am running in it. Will put another 600 in the morning.

My N4 Basic went over 2000 yesterday lubing every 400-500 rounds with KG-4 Oil. Not a single failure and still very accurate.

Around 4200 rounds is the average when using Wolf and lube without a malfunction (stuck case) in 4 ARs, 2x6920's, Sabre Defense middy upper/Colt Sporter lower, and a LMT MRP middy.

I'm up to 1,197 on a BCM without cleaning, and didn't add any lube through the first 1K, just to see if it could take it. No issues so far, nothing.

01-15-11, 19:23
On my 6920 I can't recall ever cleaning it. I keep it lubed but it's never had a problem. So I'd figure it's a pretty high round count in the 10,000's.

A long time ago I owned a few others and cleaned them routinely.

AR's will run for a looong time so long as lube is used at regular intervals.

That said, cleaning is important to effectively evaluate parts for wear etcetera.

For me, I've run FZ's without either cleaning or lubrication for beyond 2k rounds on multiple occasions simply out of neglect. I really don't see much of a warrant nor reason to intentionally run over 1k without at least a cursory cleaning and inspection unless T&E'ing something.

Whenever I build a New One from the ground up,,I like to run at least 300/500 rds through it before I do anything ! I do lube it from the start though !! I think the most I have run is around 1K,,maybe 1200,,rds,,,I'm not a fanatic about cleaning my guns,,,,but it starts eatin at me after 7/800,;),,so to make it to 1K its hard on me,,LOL !!!

~1040 rds through my BCM 14.5" middy w/ Spikes/FZ BCG so far. It's been 60-40 in favor of tula .223 55gr from CTD (white box). The 40% is Federal XM193. Still runs great. Relubed a couple of times w/ Slip2k EWL. It's pretty filthy now from all that tula....I'm feeling a cleaning coming on just cuz I hate lookin' at the filth. :D

I don't keep exact round counts but I can only estimate by the rounds I shot in courses without cleaning

I would say I have easily gone 2000 + rounds with no cleaning or lube on both my 10.5 LMT upper and my 7.5" M1 upper. Both have easily gone over 5000 rounds without a cleaning. In fact earlier this week I was thinking about how its been at least two years since either were cleaned. I run the 10.5 often suppressed and I even occasionally run the 7.5 suppressed.

I have a REECE thats about a year old that has never seen lube or a cleaning but it probably has about 1000 rounds through it.

I lube every 1000 rounds (FZ BC), and clean every 3k.

Actually, sometimes it's just whenever I feel like it.

I have carbon stains in my car (damn seats) from the lube and crap coming out of the receivers.

2,500 through a upper built from parts I had around. Its started to choke at 1500 something but did not lock up to the point it would not fire until around 2,500.

Just want to see how long it would go and it took months to finish the test.

The ammo was wolf

3300 rounds through a Colt 6721 over a three day period. It was a training class in the Phoenix desert. 112-114 degrees each day. It was hot, dirty and dusty. I was kind of surprised that she kept working with no cleaning or additional lube. We were using quality ammo, so that probably helps.

At the end of the three days, though, it was a dirty, gritty machine.

2080 rounds uncleaned form my LMT 10.5". It was a mix of M855, Hornady training, Brown Bear, Wolf, and PMC Bronze. I would re-lube before each range session with about 5 strategically placed drops of CLP. No malfunctions or issues of any kind.

This one has me thinking, correct me if I am wrong but I thought a piston system would keep it clean and cooler then a DI system? I would not of thought it would of taken such a low round count to make it hiccup.

If I may slightly hijack this thread, can anyone else post up their round count for piston systems?
