thought id share, my first bolt gun in .308 with 4 round detachable magazine. has a very impressive hogue stock(grippy rubbery feeling) with aluminum bedding block for free floating the barrel, trigger is nice at roughly 3.5-4 lbs. 24" cold hammer forged flutted barrel with target crown. went to the range but could only shoot 50 yards for now. will post pics later, very happy with my purchase FNH makes some fine bolt guns:)

I have a 20" and have been very pleased with its performance. Mine seems to prefer 168 or 175 GMM and will shoot right at .5 when I do my part. I will be upgrading to either a Manners or A5 at some point and will add an Atlass and CDI DBM upgrade... Nice rifle out of the box.

Just a thought... You might want to consider different rings for your glass. With that Hogue its gotta be a PITA sitting that high. I'm as low as I can go and even at that height I wouldn't mind taping a towel to it until I upgrade to a proper stock.

I was thinking the same thing about the rings. May want to go with a lower set so that you get a better cheek weld and you don't have to reach up to see through the scope. I try to keep my scopes asw low as possible.

Great looking rifle!!

thanks guys, forget to mention about the rings borrowed from my ar, which is actually for my red dot. will order rings asap. as for the hogue stock, they actually did a good job on bedding this rifle. as much as i want a manners or mcmillan stock the price is just outa reach for me right now. will post 100 yards once i have a chance

Get yourself some Badger Ordnance rings. I like the glass. Good rifle, a Model 70 Winchester with a different name, and you ought to try some 175 gr. Sierra MatchKings with some Varget and CCI primers, Lapua brass.

Was that a joke, or were you being serious?

As was mentioned, that scope is SKYJACKED. Holy crap. Your cheek weld is probably more of a chin-weld.

It was a serious question. However, since you'd like to take it personal... it's obvious to me you've never seen a GOOD bedding job if you think that's good. Secondly, you'll tire of the hogue if you ever get off the bench, but I doubt you will.

Now I'll gladly leave you to whatever you think you know.

I don't think he was trying to be a smart ass... He just lacked some tact in his verbiage. Honestly the Hogue really isn't "bedded" it uses aluminum blocks for more rigidity and they do call them bedding blocks however a true bedding job uses glass epoxy and creates an entire layer which locks the action and barrel down so that there is zero movement and is very rigid which will aid in accuracy for your rifle.

If you take your rifle and push up at the end of your stock you will be able to push it up and it will touch the barrel... A proper bedding job will eliminate this. The Hogue isn't worth bedding though...

While the Hogue is a fine factory stock and great base to start with, I am sure as you continue to grow in your discipline you will upgrade to a proper stock and proper bedding job (picture a layer of epoxy through your entire stock where the barrel and action are)....

Bedding pic link: (spend some time on Snipers Hide and you will see better pics and details. I just grabbed this quick link for you to see what he was talking about.

I was deadly serious in my question and indeed was not trying to be a smartass. I guess in this age of sarcasm, everyone is looking for a fight all the time. Your problem I guess... not mine.

Just think, if you weren't so damn defensive about your new toy... you might be able to get people with volumes more experience than you to help you not make a fool of yourself.

Be humble. Trust me, you will learn more, and learn faster. While this may be your first bolt gun. It certainly isn't mine.

People like myself have done the work for ourselves. We can be a valuable source of information to you... or we can tell you to go jump off a cliff. Your attitude decides the outcome. You'll find that most shooters that have a bit of knowledge will follow that same rule. If I'm coming off arrogant... that's because you patronized me and pissed me off... and you deserve it for not just giving me a straight answer. :)

Just my 2 cents here but there are alot of great used stocks out there for that action. I got a McMilan for my FN 300 wsm for 275. Its a nice stock it was used but you would never know it. Tom manners also has a trade in upgrade program you may want to call and ask him if he has anything. Also any stock for a controled round feed SA win Mod 70 will fit too.

Very nice rifle, I love mine I put a pic up here for you. Also I wanted to ask why you are testing loads at such a short range?

Also bell and carlson has a new M40a1 stock for the rem 700 sa for areound 150 Im hoping they offer it in the FN action. I have one of there stocks on my savage and for the price you cant freeking belive what you get.

How does the FN 300 short do accuracy wise? I want one badly, had a Model 70 in 7mm WSM that I wish I hadnt sold.

I've looked and looked and can't find any info. What sort of finish do the FN bolt guns have? Thinking if a 20"er as a hunting rifle.

bgoode, i myself not sure of the exact finish on my rifle, but will see if the manual has any info. ordered some lighter bullets to try out since its a 1:12 twist rate, with some good results

Still working the handload but right now Im printing 1 1/2" at 200 yards under MOA but not up to my standards at all for a 6 round group.
I have been shooting 208g AMAX and R17 in win cases. I have a keg of H4350 I am going to try and shrink the groups. Already went through the whole ringer with the R17 ladder test swaped primers seating depth etc no joy.
