View Full Version : anyone running a Magpul AFG on an auto loader?

Thinking of adding a AFG to aid in the push pull method on my shotgun. Anyone bolted, glued, epoxied, stapled onto their gun?

I think I remember someone here doing this to a Moss 930? My search skills stink.

For those that run one on their shottie, anything you care to comment on before I wreck a perfectly good forend and AFG?

Thanks!

We have one on my wifes Benelli M1014.

Talk to jaxman7. He attached his afg to a mossy autoloader using a j-b weld. I shot with it today actually. I like it.

Thanks jman, enjoyed shooting today. OP here is my original post concerning the AFG.

https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=65251

Because of the thin forend on the 930 and the position I placed the grip I really didn't have much of an option on the mounting method. With that said I've got about 400 rounds through the gun, some beating and dropping, a few squirrel/rabbit and deer hunts through it and the JB Weld has held up so far. What auto do you want to mount it on?

That was the thread I was looking for thanks Jax. I am going to add one to a Benelli M1 S90. I tried skate tape to increase traction for a push/pull grip, but I still can't get enough purchase under the recoil of the M1.

Something mechanical like the AFG or a handstop is needed.

What did you do to prep the parts to JB weld them together? I may go with an epoxy, or I may be able to get in there and bolt in a picatinny rail, but I'd like to keep the AFG as low profile as possible.

I have a gen 1 AFG and I might scrape the whole picatinny rail mount portion off to mount it as tight as possible.

I ran one on my 930 for a little while. I will be trying the AFG2 out shortly.
For the push/pull, you may want to try something like the Gear Sector handstop that you can push against more easily and may be a little easier to mount, or at least require less rail.
To clarify, I was doing this with a railed forearm replacement, not the OEM part.

That's exactly what I was thinking of as well. A gear sector or KAC style handstop may be something to consider.
Rezarf, as far as prep work goes its not too elaborate. I taped off the section of forend where the AFG would be mounted and scuffed it with 80 grit sandpaper. The most time consuming part is grinding off the picatinny rail mount section(the part that slides on the rail)so it will fit flush with forend. Hope this helps.

Push/pull grip?
Think of it as trying to stretch the shotgun while firing it.

Well put. It offsets some of the felt recoil, and on the M1 I will take all I can get.

Rezarf,

So have you come up with anything yet. Just curious.

Jax, I scored an inexpensive forearm that is coming in the mail any day now. I didn't want to jack up the one on the gun beyond repair and then running the risk of finding a semi-hard to find item.

I should be grinding the AFG down by the end of the weekend to get it fit. I am going to epoxy it on and see what we end up with. I may add a Moe picatinny rail to it too... time will tell what is gonna work best.

Cool deal! You may be able to bolt it on because of the action being different on the Benelli. The reason why I didn't were for 2 reasons:

The action on the Mossberg is much to close to the inside of the forearm and (this may keep you from bolting it on) the way the AFG is built. It is put together with two pieces screwed together along its vertical axis. My concern was if I placed upward pressure, with a mounting screw, near that joint it would begin to split the two halves. Make sense?

So do guys think the afg helps on the benelli? I have had this thing in my shopping cart on magpul so many times but am just not sure bout it. What is the main benefit?

Just curious M24 shooter, who built the rail system for the m-1. That is exactly what I need for mine. Thanks

That's a 930 SPX, not an M1.
The rail is an Aimpro Tri Rail.

Sorry about that. I didn't read your last post. Damn that looked like an M-1.
