i couldn't even begin to tell you. i have to have one dug, actually. right now, my inlaws own both houses on the property and they share a well. in order for me to acquire the house i'm in, i'd have to have a well dug.

Hand pumps depend on how deep your well is. For a shallow well the cost is not that great. There are hand pumps that will pump up to 300' in depth. These run around $800. They are usually stainless and of pretty high quailty. It really depends on how deep your well is and the gpm that you need.

Thanks for the insight but how can I find out how deep it is?

Normally the installer tags it w/ depth in feet.

Hey Varmit, A fairly simple method to determine well depth is to tie a small weight and bobber on your fishing pole. Watch your line for slack. This works well for me but my water depths are usually no deeper than 20 or 30 feet.

Who ever digs/drills your well will tell you your depth where they hit water and the draw down rate and your expected yield in gpm while they develop the well. If they cannot do tell you this then I highly advise you to move on as this is standard information for a well driller.
