View Full Version : Six AR mags and some ammo?
I thought I had seen somewhere a bag, similar in size/shape to a mechanic's tool bag, that held 3 AR mags on each side in pouches and had room in the middle for loose ammo and/or other supplies. Anyone know of such a thing?

Not sure if this will fit the bill, but I have this: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=502840
Its a little big to what you are describing, holds 8 mags, but it seems very well made and does well as a range bag.

On the right track anyway. I thought I remembered the main pouch being wider but that looks about the size to hold 500 rounds+/-.
I may have one made. Similar design but with the center compartment divided to hold one of Austere's BOK packs along with the ammo.
thanks.
maybe something like this, Rob?

Getting warmer for sure. The MOLLE on the outside leaves lots of possibilities. I think I'm going to take some ideas from that one and some from the other one and see about getting something made.
I have to remember that a 30 cal can holds about 500 rounds so the pouch probably shouldn't be much bigger than that or it's likely to get unwieldy.
Just throwing this out there to make sure it's considered as well:

Or any of Maxpedition's Tactical Attache bags, they sound like they'd fit the bill well. Just to make sure you're aware, they make a version of their Active Shooter bag with dual AR and pistol mag pouches in place of the MOLLE webbing, but if you want MOLLE, personally I'd take the more rigid and slightly smaller Maxpedition platform over the County Comm.

I have one of these: http://www.tacticaltailor.com/activeshooterbag.aspx
I have a 3 mag panel and a 2 mag pistol panel on the back, and a 3 mag panel under the flap. Then you have the main compartment which has elastic bands to keep stuff and you can also use those bands for mags. Each band will hold a mag. There are 4 bands on each side of the inside so you could hold 8 mags in bands. That still leaves enough room you can put one mag inbetween so the inside will hold a total of 12 mags. With 6 on the panels thats 18 total this will hold + 2 pistol mags in pouches. Molle webbing on the sides, too, so theoretically you could add even more.
Comes with a strap with a nice pad. Has 2 map pouches. One on the outside and one under the flap + the main compartment.
This is definitely a range/match thing, not any kind of active-shooter bag. We ask people to bring out 6 mags, 3 loaded and 3 empty, and a total of 200 rounds. Thought it would be good to "lead by example" and carry exactly that to the line my-ownself.

That mine bag with a BFG ten-speed triple pouch on either side would be pretty workable.

I've been wanting something like the MM/Emdom Ammo SAC, only with the ability to have magazines on the outside for a long time.

Perhaps buy the ammo SAC and have MOLLEesque webbing(or the pouches themselves sewn on.
Everything else posted in this thread seems like a bag that's designed to do much more rather than just carry ammunition and magazines.
What you might want to look into is get a ammo can cover from TT
and have them sew mollies onto the sides.
Just a thought.

I have two of those. Trying to ditch the added weight of the can.

I holds up to 8 AR mags and is pretty compact otherwise.

Rob,
Did you find/have made what you were looking for? I would really dig a range bag that would hold 6 AR mags externally, have room for some sort of BOK, a small maintenance kit(Lube, Multi-tool, compact cleaning kit), and 200-300 rounds of ammo. In my head I am seeing a bag about the size of a ammo can with three mags per side externally, small end pockets, and top load center section. I see the mag pouches being BFG 10-speed style or bungee, the end pockets top zippered 1/4-1/2 way down the sides and the top zippered like most bags. Hook-n-loop interior would be nice as well. Top it all off with a shoulder strap. Another route would be the same basic design, but loose the mag pouches and run molle. This way you would not be stuck with an AR specific bag. You could run AR mags, AK mags, Bolt gun mags, pistol, mix it up, ect. Damn, I really want a bag like this! Sounds like I need to find a custom maker, any suggestions?
I Intend to use www.usgruntgear.com when I get some time.
