View Full Version : Dimpling SBR barrel.....?

I have been reading a lot about dimpling barrels, and may be considering this for a Noveske N4 Low-pro shorty 10.5

I am in the middle of wait time for the ATF stamp to come back and wonder if the barrel could simply be sent of to the machine guy while I wait. Does anyone know if this would be possible?

Why couldn't it? Uppers and barrels are not regulated or controlled.

I had the front of my BCM SS410 barrel dimpled by Marvin Pitts and it's turned out great. I'm thinking of my my 10.5" Colt SBR barrel dimpled too.

I have already contacted Marvin, and the quote is abou $175 for the 10.5" done completely.

I think I am gonna make sure John Noveske supports doing this before I send it off though.

My rifle is also assembled already, so I will have to see if the people at noveske will take the barrel out and send it to Marvin for a little cost or something.

I'm willing to bet that John will be against it.

Good Luck
Dave

BTW Thanks for the info!

I read a few threads saying Noveske supports dimpling. I guess we will see.

Let us know what John says. Tell him that you are going to have Marvin do the dimpling and I bet he will say it is ok.

10.5 Noveske CQB barrel
This is one of 3 I've had Marvin do for me. 14.5 Noveske Afghan and Noveske 16 7.62 are the others. Marvin knocked off 4oz from the barrel pictured. Exactly what I wanted. Marvin IS the man.

I have had a few Noveske barrels done by Marvin and been very happy.

That said, you are having machine work done by someone other than the manufacture it is generally going to void the warranty.

Noveske said no to dimpling.

And why do you need Noveske's permission? It is your rifle, do what you want. Asking Noveske to send it out to Marvin may be asking too much on Noveske's part, but send it yourself. Maybe I missed something here.

I would do it anyway.

Are you concerned about the quality and reliability of your Noveske barrel? Dimpling will relieve stress from the barrel. Dimpling should make the barrel more reliable.

Like he said... do it anyway.

Marvin will soon have my 10.5" Colt SBR barrel, this is cutdown from a 14.5" Colt SOCOM M4 barrel.

What kind of trigger guard is that in the pics?

mcmillanman5

Looks like the KAC combat trigger guard

jeeper2269
02-10-11, 18:21
Will that triger guard work on a noveske n4?

Yes. They work with any lower that takes a trigger guard.

You're right. Marvin Pitts and KAC are so TOSish but photog/safari vests, TDU's, and 5.11 are so M4Cish!

The response to "not do the dimpling," came from office personel. I think I am going to verify whether John will void my warranty on the barrel before I make the decision. If he won't void, I will ask them to send it off for me. Otherwise, I will not do it.

If this is true, I cannot see why John would void my warranty.

So does it void the Noveske warranty or not? Thinking about having this done to my 11.5" barrel.

Since this one has already been resurrected...

I want to to see pics of that colt barrel, mine needs to loose weight.

So, the dimpling should incease surface area, allow for faster cooling, obviously reduce weight and I would think increase accuracy. Now, somewhere on the Internets, I heard the accuracy wouldn't improve, but actually get worse...I don't understand that one.

It's obviously your money, but I would consider that on a barrel that short you might not see much of a weight reduction compared to how much money you're spending. Just my .02
