I have been looking at options for replacing the MOE handguard on my recent build with a free floating one but am unsure about what I am finding. I really like the VTAC TRX Extreme or the Troy Industries TRX Extreme because I really don't like rails all over the place but I dont want to have to pull the barrel nut to install it. What I am looking for is a system like the two above that will allow me to attach it without removing the barrel nut but will also fit over a shaved front sight as well. Does anything like this exist? The reason I do not want rails at 3, 6, and 9 is I have found with rail covers, it's like holding onto a brick.

I would take a look at the Samson Mfg Evolution rail.

I dont think you are going to get around not having to take the barrel nut off...But MI also makes a rail similar to the Troy and Vtac

Troy has a new version of the TRX coming down the pipe, that will attach to the stock barrel nut. Check out the pictures in SMGLee's Tryoy SHOT Show thread.

Apex Machining (http://www.apexcncmachine.com/store.php?seller=ApexMachiningCompany&navt1=19974&navt2=20383) has a rail that kind of fits what you are looking for.

Thanks for the link to Apex. I will be looking into them some more. Too bad they wont have their rifle length ones available untill March.

I've heard good things about the new Troy rail.

The famous "nutnfancy" also has a 2011 Troy shot show review on the new rail.

I bought a Samson Evo rail to try out. I am waiting on a new upper to come in and I will install it.

Another option is to look into the PRI Gen III carbon fiber handguard. It is a little heavier but you may like that.
