I screwed up and sold my Mark 4 that had a SPR reticle, and now that I just built up another REECE, I'm looking at a new 1.5x5, but I cant decide which reticle would be the better for quicker shots as well as good for further out work, with coyotes etc. I just about ordered another 2.5x8 and see it doesnt offer the SPR reticle any more either, since I might end up getting another one of those for my SPR Mod 0 build, I'm stuck with a TMR there, would I be better just getting both with the TMR for the simple fact of being familar with the same reticle?

The SPR reticle is only being offered in the Mark4 MRT 1.5X5 and the non-illuminated model. The non-illuminated model is $250 less than the illuminated model and has a 1" tube versus the 30mm tube on the Illuminated model.

If the scope is just for target work and some occasional varminting, then I would just pick-up the standard VIII 1.5X5 scope with the Duplex reticle or the German #4. They are nice scopes for around $400.

If you are set on the Mark4 illuminated check-through the optics sub-forum. More than one member here has commented on the lesser quality of the scopes, particularly with the illumination. Also, there is a thread running on the Viper PST. It looks like a pretty nice scope for much less than the Leupold.

Your dilemma seems common here. I have been struggling over whether to purchase a low powered variable optic or a Trijicon ACOG for a Reece rifle too. I think after a great deal of deliberation and research I am going to purchase the Nightforce 1-4 NXS with the Mildot CR Reticle. It is a little pricey but I believe it will work well for my needs. If you decide to purchase the higher-end Leupold, then I would take a look at the NF first for a few hundred dollars more.

P.S. I have used several Leupold scopes for hunting and usually stuck with the standard duplex or the wide duplex reticle. The majority of the jackrabbits and coyotes I shot were well under 200 yards and usually taken with a straight fixed 4 power or variable set to 3-4X. The lower power range is better for close-in shots and leading a moving target.

I was thinking the Nightforces, but jeese the S&B short dots not allot more, I have looked throught the new Leupolds and their pretty dang nice, I had 1.5x5, a 2.5x8 MR/Ts both illuminated in the past and loved them. I have a TA31 RCOA4 on my DMR, and while I like it allot, I dont think its the best set for that rifle. I also have a TA11 on my other REECE, but being fixed, I think the variable would be nicer, although I do like the eye releif better on the TA11 vs the 31.
