Got it in today...
Took it out in the backyard and looking at the field behind our house at dusk.
Compared it into darkness against the following scopes and I am shocked at how well it performed:

Viper 2-7 C3
S&B Zenith 1.5-6x42 Flashdot #9
Accupoint 3-9x40 mildot / green dot

All I was really doing was seeing how it stacked up against the others as darkness fell and observing some oak trees at 90 yards and how well I could see the trunk and branches into to the point they were no longer visible with the naked eye.

It had better glass than the Viper, instantly noticeable and the reticle was much bolder.
Clear winner: Firedot, hands down

OK.. the shocker was how well it held it's own against the Accupoint and S&B
Not talking about how stunningly clear and high resolution the S&B is, but how, the Firedot would have let me take a shot that the S&B and Accupoint would have and how comparably bright it was..

Hard to to believe
The dot was very small and dimly lit, as dim as the Accupoint and as small, very precise aiming point
The #4 was done well, not TOO thick or close together like some I have seen

I did not test in bright light to see how the daylight visible setting is but it is clearly MUCH brighter than the night time setting.

I am usually disappointed with stuff, sometimes impressed and almost never have my expectations far exceeded...

I will test field of view on 2x, eye relief consistency, resolution, etc.. and report back

I put it close to the Viper 2-7 for a size comparison

Trees at 200 yards, scope at 2x
this was right at daybeak with the sun just to the left of the trees
Lots of light coming in my direction and the dot is set to max

Manufacturers: how about giving us BDCs in this range of scopes?

Swarovski is supposed to be coming out with a 1-7X42 with the external turrets, illuminated dot, and the BRT reticle.

I think I must be slow tonight...not understanding your statement. Does this mean your expectations were far exceeded by this scope? I've been anxiously awaiting your review of the Firedot. I had been thinking AccuPoint, but if you think the Firedot is just as good and it is several hundred dollars less expensive, then Firedot goes to the top of my list. Thanks.

Would be nice. They'd have to figure out how to make first focal plane reticles first. I wouldn't hold my breath.

The Leupold VX-R has four FireDot reticle options. One of them is the Ballistic FireDot with horizontal stadia lines for range hold overs.

In addition the 3x9 and 4x12 versions are available with the CDS Custom Dial System BDC turrets that can be specifically matched to your particular ammunition. I believe they offer one set of CDS turrets free with the purchase of the scope. All you have to do is call them with your ballistics data (Bullet weight, velocity, ballistic co-efficient) and they will make it and ship it out to you.

It's not a tactical scope per se..

Looking at the 1.5-4x for my 458s.

I read a review that the red dot seemed to shift without the reticle if you moved your head just right. Anybody experience that?

It is either this or the illuminated VX-3.

I have now got a 3-9x50, neither one of them exhibit a shift in the red dot position.

What powers the dot? Battery, Fiber Optic?

I read somewhere that it's "Fiber Optic"? Of course, I stand to be corrected.

Fiber optic uses LED source. No external ambient light.
