Being new to the AR sport I'm always looking for good deals.
I'Ve purchased stuff from CMP before and thought I'd check their surplus ammo.

That's $14 for a box of 20.... Not Good.

Assuming you don't want to shoot Steel Case ammo. (Which I, and many others do; for $4 a box), you can get penetrating ammo SS109 (Same specs at M855 military) for $259 for almost 1000 rounds: (Around $5.50 a box of 20)

Or: If you aren't allowed to shoot armor type ammo, or don't want to, you can get plenty of standard brass case ammo like American Eagle, PMC, and a number of others for the $7-$9 a box range.

$14 a box of 20 is too expensive for any .223 ammo; unless you really want/need match ammo type of stuff. And for what it's worth; UNLESS your AR-15 that you have, has a 1:7 or 1:8 twist barrel; you will find that the 75 grain bullet at the CMP may not be the most accurate. 1:9 twist is the most common barrel, and it like ammo up to around 70grain. Not that the 75grain from the CMP won't be accurate; every gun is individual. Just that for a 1:9, up to 70 grains is about the max when it comes to accuracy.

Anyway; just my $0.02483892394, but $14 a box of 20 is too much to pay. I buy a lot of CMP ammo; but .223 is NOT one of them.

It's a good price for Hornady 75gr Match. Ammunition to Go has it for $170/200. It's even better if it's .223 TAP.

The 75 grain Hornady BTHP seems to be hit or miss with alot of shooters. I pulled my hair out for a month trying to develop a load that would get decent accuracy through my Spikes LE mid length. Groups at 100 yards ranged between 3 and 7 inches with the Hornady 75 depending upon what components I used.

I have finally settled on the Nosler 77 BTHP. I get 1.6 to 1.75 MOA out to 300 yards. Sierra match king 77's are a hair more accurate but quite a bit more expensive.
