View Full Version : My Kyber Pass AKM
Started out as my trusty SAR1. Added a Bulgy folding triangle stock, Russian laminate handguards, Kvar US shiney plum grip, Russian tan sling and Russian bakelite mag.
What do you think?

Really well done! Looks great!
Outstanding.
The "Khyber Pass" AKM seems to be getting very popular. Mine looks virtually identicle.
Ochen prekrasnaya vintovka!
Did you do the conversion yourself on the receiver?

Figured since you can't reconfigure AKs as well as you can ARs I'd just rebuild one of my two fixed stock AKMs.
My next project will be to build the Bulgy 5.45 kit I've been sitting on. just have desided whether folding stock or fixed. Got some nice Russian laminate so might go that route.
Outstanding.

When mine is done, I think I'll call it an Uzbek instead [;)]

Looks like the Kyber Pass AKM may become the unofficial M4C Kalashnikov. Maybe I should get one...

That would not be far off considering many of us used the Uzbek photos as a reference, but the “Khyber Pass” name is probably more fitting.

It will more than likely be the next AKForum Special Edition Rifle......

That's cool. Maybe it can be a joint forum venture?
I want that rifle in 5.45.

Well if that's the case I might hold off on building mine and wait for the S.E.R.
I want that rifle in 5.45.
Then it's just a plain old AKS-74 like mine.

Not nearly as cool as the KP specials...
How about you sell that to me then and buy yourself what you really want?

I already have two KP's, so I dont' think I need another one....yet! :D

I frequent the AKForum and the Khyber Pass rifle has become very popular there as well. I'm in their group buy for a Galil clone through In Range. I called to ensure everything was in order and spoke to the owner who said their next special might be a Khyber Pass type in the November/December timeframe. He does really great work and if you can get into a deal through the AKForum all the better... That being said I'm still in the process of getting one built from a Romanian G kit, NoDak receiver, and Bulgy folder.
Spooky
OK fine I'll buy my own!
How about the ORF one?

I think I've heard negative things about one of the owners but I may end up buying this one.
Is that mag plum? Should I get the wood handguards or black plastic to match the PG?
Where is the best place to get more of the same mag, unless this one is junk?
I may start my own thread for this one...
That's not a "Khyber Pass" clone, but an AKS-74 clone. The KP gun is 7.62x39, the AKS-74 is 5.45x39.
Kinda thought so considering they all have slang brakes and big ol' curvy mags...
I thought the Osama pic was of a 5.45 though? Or I just mistook it for a lot of the other pictures of him where he has a '74...
OBL seems to have a plethora of Kalashnikovs. The one where he's shooting lefthanded from the kneeling (the mainstream media's favorite footage) is a Khyber Pass rifle. However, in his democrat party rants, er, his tapes, often times he has some AKSU-74 or 5.45 gun.
BTW, I wouldn't kick a AKS-74 out of bed for eating crackers. Have at it. :D
