Man oh man I wish I hadn’t seen this pic!! I have been playing around with the idea of doing a 7.62 SBR build for about 3 years. I like what I see! Have you done any kind of write up on it? On the specs and performance??

Send me some deets bro!!

Hope you and your fam are staying safe and healthy brother. It’s been a year + since since we posted on the same thread I think. Seems that way anyway.

Thanks bro, but with this being pin-and welded, it's not an SBR... just as close to one as I could build. I think is just about the perfect .308 AR. Of course, when I say that it's the "perfect .308 AR", I mean it's the perfect one... for me. I was looking to get into a .308 because I wanted the better terminal ballistics of the heavier round. What I didn't really need, was the increased range. This was to be a defensive combat carbine. As it was to be "defensive" in nature, it's not one I would need to reach out long distances, at least not in my area. (Indiana woodlands / farm country) I just wanted something with a bit more oomph than the 5.56, or should things go really bad, the ability to punch through cover better.

I did still want to keep it in as small, and light a package as I could. I like a patrol carbine, not a full on sniper rifle.

On the other hand, I've seen guys go way too far with the "smaller is better" theory too, building 10" .308 pistols that though probably very fun to play with, would pretty much cut the .308 off at the knees. I tried to make a decent compromise, and I'm pretty happy with the end result.

Receivers... Aero Precision with their LPK
Barrel... BA Hanson 14" (now discontinued) with pin-and-welded Warcomp
Rail system... Midwest Industries
Scope... Primary Arms 1-8 with the ACSS reticle
BUIS... Troy with tritium
BCG... Lantac enhanced
Recoil system... JP Captured
Trigger... Geissele SSA-E
Furniture... Magpul CTR stock, MOE grip, MVG M-LOK
Weaponlight... Surefire M300 Scout Light
Leftover ambidextrous safety that I can't remember where I got...
Leftover scope mount... same deal... just happened to work out well.

Anyway, the end result is that the rifle is a bit heavier than the typical AR (as expected being a .308) but still very easily carried as a patrol carbine. I lose some velocity, and power going down to 14", but not as much as going crazy, and doing the full on SBR 10" thing. It still packs a lot more punch than a 5.56. It's very controllable. Not sure if that's because I'm a big dude (6'1" 280) with 28 years of Army experience, or the very effective Warcomp (probably both) but I like it. I really like the ACSS reticle too, not that I'm really gonna need it for my purpose.

My original thought was to go with a 16" but the 14" was being discontinued, and was on sale. I figured I could put the savings toward the pin-and-weld, and have the package being that much smaller. Combined with the Black Friday sale, andmy military discount, I got a screaming deal, and the shorter barrel makes up for a larger receiver, so the rifle isn't really any longer than a 16" 5.56 AR, just heavier...

She shoots real well. I'm getting just over an inch so far for group sizes. The BA Hanson barrels are supposed to be guaranteed to be 1" barrels, so either I'm not doing my part, or I got a dud, but I'm so close to the mark I'm not gonna complain. Besides, it's probably me, and with everybody having that "every rifle has to shoot 1" groups" expectation these days, it's kinda crazy... Only had it out a few times so far anyway. Also it has a 1/10 twist, and I'm shooting light bullets, the heaviest being 168gr, so... It's very hard to find a .308 barrel in 1/12 or 1/11, especially a short one.

Are you shooting 110s, 125s, or 135s? You can get some of these going hella fast from a short barrel, but they get blown around on a windy day past 200.

That’s a really nice rig. Very similar to what a buddy of mine built. (16” Criterion barrel vs. your 18”) and he’s super happy with how it turned out, performance and accuracy wise.

You would use a Sprinco orange spring with a standard AR-15 Carbine length buffer. I use an H3 on my set up. The combination of the A5 extension and the standard carbine length buffer will compensate for the longer length of the 308 bolt carrier.

I've had luck with that exact setup and also with an Armalite AR-10 spring with a heavy 308 carbine buffer (the one that's slightly shorter than the AR-15 carbine buffer) In both cases they were different rifles/different barrels. The Armalite spring/308 buffer, was in an LMT MWS with a UBR Gen 2 stock and I used the spacer. The Sprinco/H3 was in an 18" BA SS precision rig I had and also what is currently in my 16" Rainier Arms Ultramatch 308. Which I am still trying to see if I posted pics of.

We always shoot the heavies, but my friend Pablo gave me some 155TMK's to try. Mark loaded up twenty and they were crazy accurate. We didn't chrono but we will because I just bought 500. It may have been one of the tightest groups out of my MWS. 4 were a ragged hole, like sub 1/2 minute then he dropped the fifth to make 3/4 minute. I'm blaming cinco on Mark!

Glad to see the 155 tmks shoot good out of the MWS. I’ve been on the fence about them. Does your dope indicate that the advertised bc is accurate? Have you shot them out far enough to see how they act when going transonic?

We smacked the 1,000 target, but cant rememeber if we went to 1,300 or not. Didnt have a lot to shoot. Have no idea if the BC holds true, over my pay grade stuff.

This heavy barreled AR10 was developed by Artillerie Inrichtingen for testing by the Dutch Marines. They call it the Mariners Rifle and here might have been a dozen or so made. This experimental variant belongs to the Transitional class of AR10's and that can be seen by the small lugged bolt and the stock and grip. The rifle is built on a Specialty Arms semi-auto lower receiver that was manufactured in 1984. The remainder of the gun is 100% original.

Here's a .308 gasser I just finished a few weeks ago. My idea was to put together an "ultimate utility-rifle" chambered in a full-powered cartridge. Short enough to be a good bush-gun. Long enough to land hits at braggable distances. A good scope with an illuminated reticle and mag-range that can be dialed down to run close-in for thicker terrain or dialed up for open country. Basically a be-all, do-all type of semi-auto rifle.

recent fun build
aero upper, lower, lpk, adj gas block, bcg, centurion rail, kak barrel, dead air brake
accurate, reliable thus far, and not too heavy
last 2 shots the target moved as it was windy and I didn't have my stand brace and I tried to time it but no success on those those two. Was using DAG surplus

POF Rogue 16" with a fair number of modifications... Runs great with the Riflespeed gas block at the (middle) "6" setting. Just a hair over 9lbs empty with scopes and light, no mag.

I love this rifle.

Very clean!

I feel like it may be begging for a Marvin dimple job though. [emoji41][emoji106]

Picked up my first AR-10 this week. I've been looking for a Brownells Retro AR-10 for months with no luck, but had this come through work at a good price. Swapped out a few accessories with stuff I had laying about, and think it looks good. Supposedly the Fallout-10s Blackrain makes are decent, if not outstanding. Guess I'll find out!

I'll be sure to let my wife know...;)
The mags are facing the wrong way, but I do like the look. I'm no photographer but the light just seemed right. Thanks for the compliment

I'm really wanting to check out Ruger's SFAR. The idea of using a 13 or 15in BCM MCMR on a 308 platform is really appealing with a 1-8. Garand Thumbs last video with the 2 gents who have been boots on the ground in Ukraine for 2 years and the British guys comments on the usage of the Scar 17 in combat has me thinking a lighter weight, shorted Battle Rifle setup might not be a bad tool to have in the box.

True, but the guy was a sniper.

While true, he stated he used the scar 17 with the 1-4 Elcan in Bahkmut.

That's awesome man, I've always wanted to shot the DD in 308. Is that the 1-6 or 1-10 razor?

That’s a 1-10. That optic really shines on a 308 gas gun.

Yeah, 100%, I've got one on mine as well and I don't know why that just works so well on a AR10 type platform but feels a little out of place on a AR15

Thanks. Technically not an AR10, it's really a .308 AR15. Very light and handy.
