What would your opinion be on one of these for an SD gun? (summer time clothes, etc) I was holding a 351c airlite model that held 7 shots. Seems like it would be a decent gun because of its weight and low recoil. From what I have been told the 22 mag is a pretty nasty round....

Seems like it would be the absolute worse you could possibly carry.

why not carry a .38 or .357? They are the same size.

+1 .22mag is not a good primary SD round. maybe one of those NAAs for a bug but that's all.

I believe all the .22 mag ammo is loaded as intended for a rifle. A short barrel .22M would probably have a very loud muzzle blast with flash due to the slower burning powder. Velocity would be much lower too.

All of the testing on short barrel .22mags that I have seen shows the FMJ rounds given decent penetration and the bullets tend to yaw reliably.

Muzzle blast would be rather loud. Ignition reliability may be an issue.

You'd be better off with a .38 loaded with wadcutters IMHO.

In addition to the ballistics of a 22 mag from a pistol, I would have issues with reliability.

The only modern factory loaded ammunition I have ever had issues with "dud" rounds have been with rimfire cartridges.

I'd stick with 38spc, and use 148gr wadcutter rounds if concerned about recoil.
