Hey guys,
I'm looking for a new pair of hunting boots, but do NOT want the bigass, heavy Danner style boot. I'm looking for a high (8") side boot, similar to what the troops are currently using in the desert. I like the lightweight, flexible and the sneaker-like tread pattern as opposed to the traditional hunting boot style....does this make sense?
Anyway, from what I've seen, all the GI style boots are not waterproof...anyone know a brand that makes something like I've described?

I wear Danner Desert Rough-Out GTX. Love them. I've got a pair of 13d that I'll make you a deal on if you want. I had to buy them in a pinch and they are too small. Worn once through an airport on the plain ride home in October. Still look new.

Belleville makes some awesome boots. I think you'll have good luck with a pair of 790's. Wore them during the winter months in Iraq and at NTC...kept my feet warm and dry, although I usually wear their 390's (my favorite uniform boot of all time).

Having said all of that, my next pair of boots will be OTB Bootistans.

Thanks for the replies. Boss, you must have great balance! :) Thanks for the offer, but a few sizes too big. :p

I have a pair of these in gore-tex and a non-Gore Tex pair for summer.

These boots simply rock. They are light and flexible.

Another Belleville recommendation. I love my 790's and want a pair of 795's (it can get cold around deer season).

That said, I think there are probably better options, but none near the price that you can find Bellevilles for.

They will absolutely keep your feet dry from the wet outside. I was hiking in the smokies with them and just stepped straight into a stream well past my ankles to cool my feet off. Felt great, and when I stepped out all the water rolled right off "like a duck's back".

the Danner Rugged All terrain Boots are not very heavy at all. and they are very comfortable. But it sounds like you would be better served to look at more of a traditional hunting boot than a military version. One thing the Military does consitantly is not offer the greatest boots for lightweight and being dry. Unless you go all out and get a Danner.
