thats your first mistake, calling "french canadians" canadian :p

these are a big deal up here, not really any sig556's up here and swiss arms mags are nooot cheap... not sure what your importation laws are like but would it be possible for you guys to import these?

Hmmm, what is the purpose of this?

Why would anyone willingly convert their SG 550 into a 556? Aren't Canadian mags all pinned to 5 anyway?

It's possible, since for US law the upper receiver on the SIG is the firearm......

Hydra, rifle mags are restricted to 5rds. up there, but pistol mags are restricted to 10, and you can get AR "pistol" magazines.....

Plus, as dudley stated, the Swiss magazines are very expensive.

I still think a custom-made lower receiver is more money than buying 3-4 used magazines. Or the Chinese copies that became available last year at 1/2 the price.

Templar is spot on the 10 round LAR pistol mags are part of the big appeal of this, that and the Swiss arms rifles are non-restricted so that plus 10 round mags means lots of fun in the woods. To give you an idea of of prices the swiss arms mags were going for about 90$ here a couple years ago, compared to 25$ for a pmag thats a pretty big savings.

That is probably true, but if you have an AR and 20 or 30 mags already...

Doesn't look to be B&T. If you find out who makes the rail, please let me know.

Not mine unfortunately, but the stripped lowers are retailing for 499$ up here, might seem kinda pricey but a full Swiss arms rifle runs about 3300$

I would be much more interested if it took standard 55x stock (preferably with steel hinge insert)

Ya think. Bizarre omission.

Then again Canada has access to real Swiss gear so they might prefer the novelty

actually allot of guys here wanted to be able to mount the original stocks too but NEA said that the main market for them wanted to be able to use AR15 stocks (im assuming they meant the US) they also mentioned that an adapter to allow the use of original swiss furniture is in the works

I totally would have gone the opposite, make an adapter for the AR stocks...

Not really sure what US kind of market they are going to have when this offers nothing over the more common 556 lower

I would guess that they are referring not to the US, but to the general Canadian market which, probably a lot like every market, is driven more by what appears in magazines than what's really better.

I'm guessing they did a bit of market research and found that most people were wanting to mount an AR stock because they're used to the "mount an AR stock on it" trend.

This seems to be a "made for Canada" item to me, just because I don't know how many guys with 550 uppers in the US are really struggling to pay for factory mags, or facing mag limits on SIG mags and not on AR mags, etc.

There are a lot of guys in the US with older model SIG 556's that have the AR stocks that could use a canadian lower that took AR mags and swiss furniture.

I think the US also has a lot of SIG owners that want an swiss style lower that takes the original mags and furniture without shelling out 2k.

BTW, a company down here makes an adapter that lets you use AR stocks on a 55X, AND still lets the folding mechanism work.

they AR stock feature isnt by Canadian demand, they're stating that the end users are "The guys who actually shoot their guns for living hate the stocks" referring to several undisclosed Tac units in Europe.

misanthropist
03-04-11, 17:14
That makes some sense...definitely not surprised it's not for the US market

Why would you swap parts between lowers? The Euro mags made by Swiss Arms for the 550/551/552/553 and by HK for the G36's are inferior and hated. I have a dozen emails from elite units in europe who are buying our G36 mag well adapters that give complaint after complaint regarding the Swiss and G36 mags. Same goes for the folding stocks. The guys who actually shoot their guns for living hate the stocks.

The above is quoted from the manufacturer of the aforementioned lower receivers.
I would be suprised if they have any real market research to back up the design decision they took, beyond what they believe will sell in Canada. I would be equally suprised if any agencies in Europe or abroad would dump the oem set up on the G36 or the Sig 550 to run adapters beyond trialing or the odd rifle.
