As much as I've ranted and raved about what a filthy beast a roller locking system like the G3 is (they ARE), they are still one of the most widely used rifles in the world. I swore I'd never own another, in front of witnesses no less.

Still, I couldn't resist.....my battle rifle resistance-fu is weak....:D

A friend of mine offered me this rifle that I sold to him 17 years ago. I couldn't say no to a factory built G3.

Springfield Armory SAR-8, HK licensed, built in Greece.

I now feel as if I must redeem myself for worshipping at the altar of Vorgrimmler.....

So a little Saive action..... ;)

I also just picked up a new DSA StG-58STD which I turned into a Rhodesian/South African R1 clone with the help of JohnO. The correct carry handle is enroute.....

This is the rifle I used for the Vickers Battle Rifle Class....performed flawlessly.

In order to help assuage the anguish you must feel for being so weak, I'll take that STg58 off your hands...I'll even low-ball you on the price so that it will be a lesson you'll remember for a long time. Anything to help out!

Beautiful rifles, not sure which one I like the most.
Been looking at something like your FAL for a while now.

My only 308 "battle rifle" at this time is a Valmet M-78 bought new in 1984 with 9 magazines.

How many of those little green army men did they have to melt down to make those stocks?

Just kidding! Nice rifle ;)

Love that SAR8! Great rifles...not only are they dangerous from the front, but anyone trying to flank you on the right will sustain horrible wounds from the empty brass! The ejection from these roller locked rifles is "vigorous" to say the least! :D

Just need a grenade sight for that FAL.

Templar,

What parts did you have to change on the SA-58 (other than buttstock and handguards) to make it into an R1 clone?

I missed out on the S/A kits and was thinking about getting an SA58 and making it into an R1 clone.

Thanks,
Rich

You'll never get that as clean as you like, better give it to me.

Thanks guys. As far as I know, no green army men were destroyed in the making of this rifle.....:D

RD, I swapped out the buttstock, handguards (which are real African vets), and the flash suppressor. I have the proper carry handle coming, although alot of them had the carry handles cut off in Africa.

As MH64 noted, I should get a grenade sight gas plug to complete the look.

h8mtv, you're more than welcome to shoot it anytime, but you'll probably prefer the FAL.....

Geez, I recall a rather recent rant about how filty roller locking systems are (and they are make no bones about it) at the Battle Rifle class... ;)

Good looking blaster there Templar...now all it needs is a paddle mag release.

Oh, don't worry, I'll still rant and curse every time I have to clean this thing....:o

It has a 21E buffer in the stock, which will help with the thump, and I've got the parts for the flapper release, I just need to get it done.

When cleaning it, just remember you don't have to get every last bit of carbon out of there. It was most likely functioning fine before the cleaning. :D
