I understand the differences. My question is this however, if shooting .223 in a 5.56 will there be any negative effects? such as fouling or anything. I usually shoot 5.56 to train but could i use .223 for matches and not mess up anything? i don't want to introduce any fouling or deposits that might mess up chambering the 5.56 rounds. any idea? thanks

No*

*What's going to matter is not the specification (.223 or 5.56), but the quality of the load. I have shot loads in both specifications that were really clean and loads that were really dirty. It's all relative anyway, since DI guns don't necessarily run "clean."

Gas fouling is normal with this system. Please do some more reading about 5.56 and .223.
