View Full Version : Norinco
Local Gun shop has a used Norinco MK-90 Sporter for $500, worth it?
Hard to say without some more info...
Is it in postban configuration with the thumbhole stock?
Stamped or milled receiver?
Any accessories?
$500 would be a decent price for a milled rifle, but I wouldn't pay that much for a stamped MAK90 unless it had been properly converted to military configuration (Pistol grip, butt stock and 922(r) legal).
I saw several decent stamped MAK90's last month at a local gunshow in the $400 - $450 range, if that helps.
Roger,
NORINCO MAK-90 Sporter.
- Stamped receiver
- "Made in China" on the reciever
- Pistol grip, buttstock.
- Scope rail on top of upper receiver cover.
- No muzzel break/flash hidder
- Ser Number starts with "941***"
- Genuine "Norinco."
I'd say that's the high end of price range. If you could get it for around $400-$450, I'd say go for it.
Templar,
Thanks! I already did (can't wait ;) It's used and shown signs of shelf wear (it was in a pawn shop and not taken good care of). Needed a little TLC. Seems like a pre-ban rifle (the owner don't know jack about AKs) with all matching parts (serial number on bolts, barrel etc). Ungly stock and pistol grip though, I think it's after market. Will take some pics and post them!

That's a post ban rifle that someone took the thumbhole stock off and put a standard style on.
To be legal, you'll need to have the app. # of US parts in it, like the hammer, trigger, and disconector....and you could also get a US made grip and buttstock.
You'd be fine then.
Alot of guys buy the MAK's and then unban them to Chinese mil spec, and they make great AK's.
Templar,
Thanks again! I just took her to the range and put 70 rounds rapid fire down range. Smooth as butter! Where can I find some good furniture for her? I'm thinking Synthetic stock set. $420's a good price?
Cheers

Cope's Dist has US-made synthetic furniture, which is fairly priced and will help with the parts count.

The US made stuff from K-Var (which I think is the stuff Cope's Distributing sells) is great stuff, but be prepared to do some fitting with a dremel to get the buttstock and the handguards to fit. The Chinese guns have a thicker receiver than the European AKM's. You'll want the stock sets for a stamped receiver.
$420 is a fair price. I'd ditch the dustcover with the rail and get yourself a regular dustcover though, those type of mounting systems won't hold zero for anything.
Thanks Templar! Just tapped into the AK market and might need more future advices.
I picked a up NIB one at a show for 400.00, I snagged one for 300.00 that has been around the block alittle but functions nice. One day I will break down and change the furniture on them.
