Bought a complete Spikes lower last week from a buddy for $150. Need to put together and upper. Here is what I am looking at:

I know I will need a rear sight. Other than that what else will I need. Also will I have any headspace issues? As the title says this will be my 1st AR and I am looking for help.
Thanks
Mike
It sounds to me like you're choosing some good quality items. Should just be a plug-and-play assembly project. BCM bolt and BCM barrel - you *shouldn't* have any headspace issues.
Is the lower alreasy assembled?
Yes the lower is assembled.

It'll work great. I have basically the same exact build as what you're doing. I have a spikes lower with stag arms lower parts kit, ctr stock, bcm/Troy rear site, Midwest industries carbine length rail instead of midlength like you. And the bcm upper is an m4 upper with 1/7 twist carbine length complete with charging handle and bcg. Shoots great if I had more time to spend zeroing it. You'll have no regrets
Other than that, I think you will need a lot of magazines and ammo. If you haven't placed your order yet, BCM sells really good mags at an extremely reasonable price (8.99 for standard, and 9.99 for one with magpul anti-tilt followers).

Def get some mags and don't make the same mistake I did and get the magpul emags that are 22 bucks each lol. That was my only choice tho. How are the standard gi mags with magpul followers comPared to just regular pmags?

Skinnier/less bulky
Look more "normal" (subjective :p )
Work just as reliably as PMags if you use a quality mag body
Less robust as PMags, since they can dent/deform more easily
I would trust either one. The only reason I have so many PMags is that USGI magazines aren't available locally.

Ive been using the G.I mags for a long time. Ive never had ONE get deformed. Unless youre running them over or throwing them you have no reason to not go with a G.I mag. I put Magpul ranger plates on all mine. They are fine. The bushmaster G.I mags are nice, teflon coated and have a good follower. The only thing I own that is Bushmaster
I have two 30 round Pmags. Looks like I'm going to place my order with BCM tonight. Now the wait begins. Thanks for the information. Will post pictures when it's complete.

Neither deform easily. PMags break before they deform, and that's after stresses that would easily ruin a USGI. I've only had one fail in such a manner from a USGI, but admittedly that was having a rather heavy piece of steel crash right into it.
As I said, I'd trust both. I need more USGIs, though. :)

Lol ya that would do it. I love the GI mags. They are really nices with the ranger plates too. Cheaper than dirt sells the BM mags for $20. They are teflon coated. Very nice, drop free, the follower is nice too. The ranger plates install in under a minute. A little expensive but worth it to me. Some dont prefer them but they work well for me.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a rear sight? Plan on putting optics on later when I have the funds.
I prefer fixed BUIS, so I use the DD A1.5 (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Daniel-Defense-A1-5-Fixed-Rear-Sight-p/dd-11002.htm) on my 16" with optics. It's a good lightweight sight, and reasonably priced too.
If you want flipups then look at Troy, they're costly, but good quality and hold up to abuse as far as I've been told by those who run them.
I don't recommend the Magpul MBUS sights as long as you're going to use the irons as primary sights. The MBUS sights are sold as backup sights, and should be used as such.
Almost complete. Still need a rear sight. Looking a Troy Battle and Midwest Ind. SPLP
