View Full Version : Ion Bonding and removing a flash hider??
My barrel is Ion Bonded and I need to remove the flash hider, whats the best way to go about this without scratching up the Ion Bond? When I do flash hiders I use my barrel vise clamps and clamp out on the end of the barrel next to the flash hider, I never have felt comfortable using the upper reciever vise to remover or install flash hiders, so would this be the way to go about it though?
Ion Bond is supposed to be pretty durable. However, here's a device that might work as it holds the barrel by the receiver extension. I have not tried it

Hmmmmm
With a standard A-frame FSB, you can stick a big assed screw driver through the A-frame and use it as a lever when turning off the muzzle device. I have used this as an expediant method while at the range. As long as you have a well pinned FSB, you can do this without using enough tourque to damage anything. YMMV.
Why don't you just do it right the first time and put your upper in a upper reciever block and a table vice? I have removed dozens of FH's and using a upper block is the best way to go.

I agree 100% that using the upper reciever block is the correct way of doing it.
I just saw who posted this. I have a set of vice blocks if you want to get together and do this right, drop me a PM.
