How about the ORF one? It looks like what I've wanted for a few years now. Is it the one to buy if I want this look?

I also wouldn't mind a SLR with the sidefolding solid stock but I can't find those anywhere.

I think I've heard negative things about one of the owners but I may end up buying this one.

Is that mag plum? Should I get the wood handguards or black plastic to match the PG?

Where is the best place to get more of the same mag, unless this one is junk?

Would ORF be able to put a rail on the side of this rifle for me? Would that be stupid? If I want to modernize it enough to use a scope or red dot later (russian flavor) would it be period-correct to get something like the SLR type?

The SLR105s with folding stocks are custom jobs, they never came from the factory like that.

Well where would I get and how much would I expect to pay for a decent AK74 solid stock sidefolder with rail, plum or black synthetic furniture? I'm not really finding too many of those...

I'd buy a kit from ORF, I don't know about a built rifle. If you buy a kit, and then a recevier from Nodak-Spud/DCI, you can have build it up and have a great rifle.

All that's going to be out there are rifles built from kits, unless you snag an aformentioned Arsenal SLR-105A1 that you can then spend some money on putting a side folder on.

That magazine isn't plum, that's a Bulgarian red mag, the Bulgarians came out with about 4 or 5 different color variations on their 5.45 mags, they all work the same though.

VA_Dinger bought an AKS-74 from Hammerstone Arsenal, but I don't know if he has had a chance to get to the range with it or not.

If you go that route, I wouldn't pay them extra for "Russian selector markings", as they're electropencilled in. The actual build looks pretty decent though.

Dinger's AKS-74

Thanks for the info Templar.

So if I spent $400 on that gun as a parts kit from ORF and bought a Nodak Spud receiver, who should I have build the rifle?

How do these metal sidefolders feel when shooting? My underfolder is pretty crappy as far as a cheekweld.

If this triangle will have just a little bit better than the underfolder and nowhere near as good as a sidefolding polymer, i'll just go straight for the SLR rifle.

Mario at Piece of History Firearms, Troy at InRange, , Mike Friend at the Firing Line, Chris Butler at AKUSA.....those are the big guns in the build industry.

h8mtv here on the board is a licensed smith and has built up some nice looking AKM's that I've seen.
