I have wanted a High power for a very long time, and now I am looking at two of them. The first is a 77 Belgium made in good condition. #2 is US made a little newer and in a bit nicer condition. The Belgium is a little more money, so which one is the better made gun? I'm sure its a stupid question, but hope you guys can help me with some good advice
Thanks
odie

Hi Powers have never been made in the US. I'm assuming the '77 Hi Power is a FN marked Hi Power. The "US made" Hi Power is probably Browning marked, but is still made by FN. What year is the newer one? You will have better luck finding the info you want at Hi Power Talk (http://hipowertalk.com/forum/).

This guy has a lot of information on the Hi Power http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/HiPowerComments.html

Take another look at the US made Hi Power, it may not be a Browning. Charles Daly imported Hungarian FEG Hi Power parts and assembled them in the U.S., in Pennsylvania I think, and the one I saw was marked made in US.

As far as I know FN/Browning Hi Powers have been made in Belgium and assembled in Belgium, or made in Belgium and assembled in Portugal. Canada, Israel, Hungary and Argentina have also made Hi Powers.

I'm not sure that there is a man alive that knows more about BHP's than Stephen Camp. ;)

Very true, Mr. Camp is "The Man" regarding Hi Powers.

If it were my choice, OP, I'd lean toward the Belgian 1977 model which could be a T Series.

They are prized among Hi Power aficionados for their quality.

Good luck. Let us know how things work out. :)

Which ever one has an external extractor.

This is solid advice. Nothing wrong with the internal extractor, I have a couple of HPs with them, but good luck finding one if it breaks or looses tension. My buddy put together a Capitan with sloted frame for the shoulder stock and it was a bear trying to find an internal extractor. It ended up coming from Canada after six months of searching for something like $30+.

I had to replace the external extractor on one of my HPs and it ran $12 and only took 5 minutes with an emery board to fit. And if it looses tension just swap out the spring for a new one and those run about a buck.
