Contemplating a BCM 11.5 with Omega 7 rail, but am a bit confused. In various photos, it is shown mounted over a standard delta ring with the front hand guard retainer intact, a 'drop-in' if you will.

On BCM's site, the photos show a different arrangement with no delta ring but something else that appears to be part of the rail. Anyone have any experience with this?

seems like you're talking about the Omega X Rail....a different model than the Omega Rail

To expound, there are two models...

Omega (the original incarnation) is a "drop-in"...simply remove stock handguards and a simple bolt-on to install. Use this one if you want to install a free-float rail without altering the gun and be able to return to stock handguards at any time.

Omega-X uses a proprietary barrel-nut and elminates the delta-ring. If ordering a new rifle (from BCM, etc.), I would get this one...all Omega advantages with a more solid fit, but you couldn't put stock handguards (or after market handguards that use the stock HG hardware) if you wanted to.

Both Omegas are reasonably light and very comfortable (IMO) and can be removed if needed (e.g. to clean under them).

Therein lies the confusion, I didn't realize there were a couple of incarnations of the Omega rail. Thanks guys.
