Very interesting and insightful article by Peter Kokalis from the April, 1987 issue of SOF. While I disagree with some of his choices, SMGs for example (I think the MP5 and Uzi systems are superior to his picks), his wish list nailed some of the evolutions of small arms we currently have.

Interesting article, thanks for posting it. I wonder why he wanted his ak and colt carbine to have a burst feature (I was under the impression that the burst mode wasn't well liked).

He was probably of the opinion that after the third round you are off target.

I understand most of what he was saying - but I don't agree with most of it.

I do however believe that the Sterling, and Ingram MAC guns are superior submachine gun designs, with the Vz. 61 Skorpion being very close, albeit terrible cartridge.

The drawback to the MAC is it's high cyclic rate. And I also don't agree with many of his positions, but they are insightful - especially for 1987.
